Afraha Stadium in Nakuru has evolved into a modern sports facility. With substantial investments, it boasts top-notch amenities, including well-maintained pitches, seating, and advanced infrastructure that meet international standards. This upgrade will allow the stadium to host major events, drawing visitors and boosting the local economy. The efforts invested in this stadium show how visionary leadership can turn a facility into a regional asset that promotes sports and inspires youth.
In stark contrast, Bomet Green Stadium, which received over KSh 300 million in funding, remains in a deplorable condition. Despite being recently constructed, the stadium is far from the modern, inspiring environment it was meant to be.
With a poorly maintained pitch, dilapidated seating, and an overall rundown appearance, it looks like something stuck in the 1980s. In fact, the state of the pitch is reminiscent of those used in circus arenas in ancient Greece—barely fit for any serious competition.
The recent athletics event showcased how unsuitable the facility is, failing to meet basic standards for such competitions. The lack of care and investment in proper maintenance only adds insult to injury. What’s more frustrating is that Bomet’s leaders seem stuck in a bygone era, clinging to outdated infrastructure and failing to prioritize development.
Their approach to leadership is uninspired, and the current state of the stadium reflects this lack of vision. Instead of pushing for modern solutions, they’ve allowed a symbol of progress to fall into neglect, leaving a facility that demotivates rather than inspires.
