Space Age magazine A cultural magazine for the Space Age. http://www.spaceagemag.com Different folks have different ideas about when exactly the space age began.

However, since the year 2000, there hasn't been a single moment of a single day when there hasn't been a human being in space. So this definitely is the age of the human habitation of space. Space Age is a project to start a newsstand magazine for everyone interested in space exploration and human life in space. If you are interested in joining our project, for instance by writing for the magazine

The Planetary Defence Congress in Washington DC will discuss the best ways to protect Earth against asteroid strikes - and also against comets too. One of this magazine's friends, Prof. Joel Marks, has lobbied for years for the threat from comets to be taken as seriously as that from asteroid collisions. The PDC planning committee announced:

"The conference will include an exercise where participants will simulate the decision-making process for developing deflection and civil defense responses to threats posed by a hypothetical asteroid designated “2019 PDC”. Attendees are invited to use 2019 PDC as a subject for their own exercises and for papers to be presented at the conference. Details on the threat will be posted at https://cneos.jpl.nasa.gov/. To encourage research and presentations on threats posed by comets, details of a hypothetical long-period comet threat will also be posted at this site."

Aboard the ISS, German astronaut Alexander Gerst confirms the location of an air leak through a micro-meteorite hole - by putting his finger over it. He and his colleagues then repaired the hole with duct tape.

A "micro-fracture" from a possible collision with a rock fragment sets off alerts on the ISS.

Still no deal between the UK and the EU over access to the Galileo system after Brexit, and for the first time the British Government has earmarked some real money towards the proposed UK satellite navigation system. The £92 million announced today seems a lot for a feasibility study - I'd have done it for £1 million if they'd asked me - but figures of about £3 billion for the whole system have been suggested.

In a sign she expects Britain be frozen out of the EU project, the prime minister says the UK's scheme is not an "idle threat".

Latest Galileo-related rumours in the FT. So, the European Commission has basically told the Brits that they won't have access to the secure data from the Galileo satellite navigation system because the UK will be outside the EU. This has gone down poorly given the UK's huge investment in the system so far, so the British Govt is now proposing to build its own rival system instead. The FT claims (1) that maybe - just maybe - the Australians may join the project as well and (2) that the British Govt have been privately considering a rival system ever since 2016.

Apparently even life in the Goldilocks Zone isn't always milk and honey.

Our closest stellar neighbour, Proxima Centauri, knows how to belch 'em out. According to new research, in March of last year it erupted into an absolute beast of a stellar flare, 10 times brighter than the largest flares produced by our own Sun, eve
