Forza Motorsport: First Race @ VIR in Years, We Take 1st, Survive With Soft Tires
Virginia International Raceway (VIR) was established in 1957 as a challenging motorsport facility in Alton, Virginia. Originally designed for testing and club racing, VIR quickly gained a reputation for its scenic and demanding track layout. Financial difficulties led to its closure in 1974, but in 2000, the Siegel family, led by Harvey Siegel's sons, purchased the track and embarked on a significant restoration project. After extensive renovations, including track repaving and facility improvements, VIR reopened in 2000. Since then, it has become a premier venue, hosting major racing events such as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Pirelli World Challenge. Its iconic layout, featuring the famous "Oak Tree" corner, has contributed to VIR's status as a favorite among racers and fans alike.
