📘 Understanding Credit When Buying a Car

If you're planning on buying a vehicle soon, your credit profile plays a huge role in the rates, approvals, and programs available to you.
Here are the 4 key factors that impact your credit — explained simply:

1️⃣ On-Time Payments (The BIG one)

This is the #1 factor lenders look at.
Consistently paying your bills on time shows banks you’re reliable.
Even ONE late payment can drop your score — so this is your foundation.

2️⃣ Credit Usage (How much of your limit you use)

This is the percentage of your credit card limit you’re using.
Example:

$1,000 limit

You’re using $700

You’re at 70% usage (too high)

You want your usage below 30% for the best scores.
Lower usage = higher score = better rates.

3️⃣ Number of Accounts (Your Credit Mix)

Having different types of credit helps:
