It's criminal and cruel to put people in jail who have dementia, Post traumatic stress, autism spectrum, traumatic brain 🧠 injury 🤕

Locking up people who need health care is both unjust and dangerous.

The United States jail and prison systems are the largest mental health care providers in the country—despite being ill-equipped to provide people with the care they need.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we must end this insidious overreliance on mass incarceration and invest in community-based programs that can help keep people from getting involved in the criminal legal system in the first place when what they really need is empathy, treatment, and support.
