One of our all time favorite Mike Dillon albums ‘Rosewood’ celebrates five years today!

Dillon created the album solely with vibraphone and percussion instruments and titled the record after the type of lumber used to make marimba bars.

The 13-track collection was written and recorded during a period of profound change and swirls with the tangled and bittersweet emotions of one chapter ending as another began.

“I started spending time in Kansas City in August 2017, where I’d previously lived in 1997,” explains Dillon. “My friend of twenty years, Peregrine Honig, invited me to see her beautiful art studio converted from an old church building called Greenwood Social Hall. By December, I brought my marimba there and would play for hours. The songs on this record wrote themselves in that sonically sacred space.”

Grayson Capps’ “South Front Street” celebrates 5 years this week! This 16-song retrospective of the acclaimed South Alabama singer-songwriter’s career was compiled by his wife and longtime musical foil, Grammy® Award-winning producer/engineer, Trina Shoemaker.

More than just a standard “Best Of” compilation presenting Capps’ most popular work, Shoemaker selected songs that have personal significance in their journey together. Taking it even another step further than the standard retrospective approach, Shoemaker revisited each of the original recordings, remixing many of the songs from scratch, essentially presenting them here anew.

As Shoemaker concludes: “Among this collection are recordings I believe to be my finest work. ‘South Front Street: A Retrospective’ is Grayson Capps’ story, and within it lies my own.”

“Forever Young,” the final song to be released from Reed Mathis’ series of recordings that reimagine the music of Bob Dylan is out today!

As on all 12 singles, Reed is joined by Adam MacDougall, Giulio Xavier Cetto, Jay Lane, Natalie Cressman and Elliott Peck.

“‘Such a beautiful sentiment in this song, so clearly sung from a parent to their child, or at least from a ‘parent’ to their ‘child.’ This track is a feature for Adam MacDougall’s tender heartbreaking original voice he’s developed on the Moog synthesizer - and it is a voice. The outro is where it’s at - I took one word from each line of the song to create a poem:

“This song is saying trouble is HERE! And, babe, if you can’t hang or take care of business, you’re gonna get LEFT! It’s a no nonsense song. One could say it is cruel; one could also say it has healthy boundaries. Being that the metaphor here involves levees and a flood, I made the choice to borrow some groove information from New Orleans drumming, but once past the lyrics, we took the form through a whole bunch of different styles, always trading and improvising and conversing.” — Reed Mathis

The Dead Kenny Gs have released ‘House With An “R”’ — a new 24-track live collection that dips into the legendary punk jazz trio’s archives to present two shows from June 2011 while on tour with Primus!

Comprised by Skerik (saxophones/efx), Mike Dillon (drums/vibes/percussion), and Brad Houser (bass), the album pays tribute to their late bassist who passed in July 2023.
