"How long will it actually take to see my book on a shelf?" 📚

It’s one of the most common questions we hear! The journey from a finished manuscript to a published book is an exciting one, but it does take a little time to ensure everything is polished and professional.

At Hawes & Jenkins, we typically guide authors through a 6 to 8-month publishing process. By the 8-month mark, your book is usually available across major print and online distribution channels.

We know you're eager to share your story with the world, and our team is dedicated to making sure that when your launch day arrives, your book is the best it can possibly be.

Have more questions about the process? Check out our full FAQ page here: https://hawesjenkins.com/faqs/

Ever find yourself stuck in a cycle of overthinking every word before you even write it? ✍️

Sometimes the best ideas come from leaning into your creative impulses rather than sticking to a rigid outline. Our latest blog explores why "writing on a whim" can be the key to breaking through writer’s block and discovering unexpected turns in your story.

Check out these tips for trusting your creative instincts:
✨ Embrace the messiness of first drafts
✨ Give yourself permission to be spontaneous
✨ Use freewriting sessions to spark new ideas
✨ Trust your characters when they take you in a new direction

Great stories start with characters readers believe in. 📖

If you want your characters to feel real and memorable, focus on the details that bring them to life:

• Know your characters inside and out - their past, fears, and motivations
• Give them flaws and imperfections readers can relate to
• Show who they are through actions and dialogue (not just description)
• Make their goals and motivations clear
• Let them grow and change over the course of the story

Strong characters don’t just exist on the page. They stay with your reader long after the story ends.

Feeling stuck creatively? ✨

When inspiration feels out of reach, a few simple shifts can make all the difference.

📚 Try stepping outside your usual creative habits by reading or watching a film in a new-to-you genre. Even a new café can spark fresh ideas and perspectives.

✍️ Give free journaling a chance by writing whatever comes to mind without editing or overthinking. You might uncover an idea that’s been waiting to surface.

🌈 Creating a focused, inspiring writing space can also help. Surround yourself with books, art, and objects that motivate you, and minimize distractions so your creativity has room to grow.

Small changes can reignite big ideas. Keep exploring and let your creativity lead the way. ✍️✨
