1.75 TB of footage somehow still wasn’t enough to capture all 13 incredibly beautiful, intense, cold and glorious days we spent in Iceland.

But it did “help” us make our longest video yet 🙃. Iceland, thank you for all the countless waterfalls, glaciers for days, the infamous Ring Road, wind all around us, triple Fs, the Northern Lights!, tasty hot dogs, and the sturdiest campervan named Dorothy.

7 glorious days of 9 Shinkansen, 1281km across 11 cities, 2 ferry rides, 1 taxi, and countless beautiful views, bowls of ramen, and new friends. This was one of our favorite trips ever, all thanks to these ever reliable, speedy, sometimes cutesy spaceship looking bullet trains.

We spent 3 overwhelmingly, deliciously incredible days exploring China’s biggest city and woah, Shanghai was a trip. There are pockets of quiet beauty everywhere, amongst all the modern skyscrapers, electric vehicles whizzing by, and 25 million locals who call Shanghai home. Our personal faves? Riding bikes everywhere for under $3, tasty dumplings of all kinds, and a day trip to West Lake, Hangzhou.

Congrats to the ever soulful, hilarious, and genuinely inspiring Izavelle, the first winner of our study abroad scholarship! We are so, so happy for her and feel so lucky to have had the chance to meet her.

We made a little video on YouTube, so you can learn more about this awesome human being and why she cares so much about traveling and her community. Check it out when you have a chance :)

Big, big thank you to everyone who helped make this scholarship a reality!

On one of our first dates, we both learned we had a bucket list dream of climbing Mt Fuji. Flash forward a few years, we spent 3 summer days in Lake Kawaguchiko, Japan, exploring the lakeside town by bike, planning our climb, and making that dream come true. Best part? Our brief 5 minutes at the summit. Oh, and onsen-ramen-sake recovery the day after. Worst part? Coming down the mountain. :)

Summer plans:
✅figure out how to go to Disneyworld for free (read: with miles and points alone)
✅make a ridiculously silly, nostalgic “do something just for the fun of it” movie

Spoiler alert—we had the best time. 🥳

Special shout out to our parents, all the parents, aunties, uncles, grandparents and, really, anyone who has ever planned for, saved for, and taken their little ones (including us big kids) to Disney. You guys are true heroes. 🥰

Friendly reminder to get out there and do something just for the fun of it 🙃

We’d heard Dubai was one of those places you either love or hate. It’s known for the glitz and the glamour, luxurious and biggest everything, with lambos on every street corner. And, well, if there’s one thing you know about us, it’s that we are the precise opposite of fancy 😂 But, we had to know if our $100 per day budget would make it here.

We spent 3 days in Dubai during the holy month of Ramadan and for us, it was the unexpected that made the trip endlessly fascinating... like all the traditions and culture that remain intact even in the hypermodern city; the people here - the kind, hardworking migrant workers from all over the world that run every aspect of this megalopolis. And oh yeah, turns out, Dubai can actually be done on a budget.

Traveling the Philippines is one big adventure from start to finish. From the moment we landed we knew we were in for something special. We were on a tricycle or a boat almost every single day, there’s incredible food, bus rides with 2-high stacks of chickens in cardboard boxes, flights on airlines we’d never even heard of, night markets, these jeepney things to get from city to city, boats through underground rivers, 7000+ islands, beaches so beautiful that they look fake, and the most friendly people we’ve ever met. There’s no real set tourist path, and we had no real plans, except our usual $100 per day budget.

If you haven’t checked out our 2 Weeks in the Philippines video yet, head to YouTube now and settle in for our longest video ever (they just keep getting longer and longer 🫠).

If you made it to our latest Travel Support Thursday or halfway through our 3 More Days in Tokyo video, you would’ve heard the exciting news:

1. We started a study abroad scholarship!
Our mission here has always been to help people travel the world and we hope this scholarship will help college students get a little bit closer to their dreams of studying abroad. For details and to apply, check it out here: https://lisaandjosh.com/scholarship

2. We’ve got a Patreon!
City guides, maps, deleted scenes, bloopers, directors’ commentaries, and our entire travel hacking and credit card course can all be found there. On top of that, 10% of everything we make from our Patreon will go directly into the study abroad scholarship fund, and we’re going to match that amount every month.

A big, big THANK YOU to all of you for watching our videos and for your love of travel. We hope this is just the start and that we get to keep giving the gift of travel to as many people as possible, for as long as possible.

The first of our “3 More Days In…” kicked off in one of our most favorite cities—Tokyo. Spaceship boats, Fuji-san views, samurai festivals, J-pop concerts, plum blossoms, a vending machine bar, a day trip to Yokohama, and Tokyo Tower certificates of stairway ascent, (which make Josh feel accomplished and like he really did something) are just a few of the things we got up to.

We went to Vietnam with the intention of making a “3 Days In” Hanoi and Saigon, the two biggest cities. But as soon as we landed, we knew we had to change all our plans and do a big ole trip across the country—it was one of the best trips we’ve ever taken.

Vietnam feels like one of those places that changes you and changes the way you travel. The adventure, the food, the tiny plastic stools, the history, the food again, the beautiful scenery, and the people. The people are so incredibly special, strong, fun and funny, resourceful, and just badass. This caption and these photos just don’t do the country justice. And if you’ve got the time, we just finished an *almost* 2 hour long video on our 13 day journey posted on YouTube.

Bangkok was one of the first places we traveled to together. Some people either love or hate it, but the city’s colorful, hectic, vibrant, and gritty energy and neighborhoods full of friendly people and secret bars makes it one of our favorite places to go back to. We spent our 3 days exploring the canals, visiting all the markets and wats (Buddhist temples), zipping around in their new electric tuktuks! and eating all the good food. (Last photo from our first trip almost 5 years ago!)

$100/day goes a long way in Bangkok, but our favorite ways to stay on budget were:
-Taking the boats to get around the Chao Phraya River. There are all kinds of tourist hop on and hop off boats, but the orange flag commuter boat was our favorite—it’s always an adventure and costs 15 baht ($0.44 USD) one way.
-Street food is our favorite kind of food and there is no shortage of it in Bangkok, all of it so affordable and tasty. Papaya salad, meat on sticks, yes please.
-even though many bars, malls and more modern restaurants accepted credit card, we found cash to be the main form of payment there. We usually withdraw cash from the ATM upon arrival to avoid high exchange rates (and with our Schwab debit card, we don’t have any withdrawal or ATM fees.)
