«“Fantasmasis” conjuga doze malhas de black metal obscuro, atmosférico e experimental, com instrumentos tão particulares como o serrote musical ou o cistre. O álbum foi gravado em 2008, nos Axe Farm Studios com a assinatura das entidades anónimas Medo I, na instrumentação (guitarra, bateria, sintetizadores), e Medo II nas letras e vozes. Dois músicos com veneráveis ligações a nomes como os Grievance, Vizir ou Flagellum Dei.
“Fantasmasis” é a primeira parte de uma das mais celebradas trilogias do Black Metal português que foi continuada em 2011, com “Matéria Negra”, e teve o seu fim em 2014, com a edição de “Cruzando Os Portais Do Submundo”, editado pela Nyarlathotep Records no Brasil, país que deu aos Medo um estatuto de culto e devoção, sendo esse também um álbum raro e bastante difícil de encontrar.»

Pela mão da Haloran Records, "Fantasmasis", o álbum de estreia dos funestos Medo, foi finalmente reeditado, depois de uma edição física esgotada logo no seu lançamento em 2009.

Medo: Fantasmasis (2009) - mini-review

Portuguese band Medo released the album "Fantasmasis" back in 2009, with a reissue appearing now in 2025, and metal is the style explored on this production. Extreme metal is the4 name of the game here, and in this case with a distinctly lo-fi sounding variety of the form that comes with something of an automatic association towards the underground scene. Rough, raw and honest are perhaps some catchphrases to make use of here, as we are taken through a barren, primal and primitive sounding landscape. The vocals are more twisted than distorted and dominant in the mix, while the guitars are thin, hard and sharp as they buzz away a bit in the distance. With high pace and momentum being the default mode here, and occasional lapses into slower paced excursions that also have a bit of a distinct lo-fi quality to them. In between these mainly short and concise compositions we get multiple cases of mood pieces, ranging from elegant affairs with a bit of a sacral feel to them and on to more weird and unusual sound displays. A production to seek out by those who enjoy a more primal, rough and ready variety of intense extreme metal, and that can appreciate a good few numbers of playtime given over to more or less eerie atmospheric laden soundscapes in between the regular songs.
