The history of e
began with the discovery of two criticalprinciples: The first is camera obscura imageprojection, the second is the discovery thatsome substances are visibly altered byexposure to light[2]. There are no artifacts ordescriptions that indicate any attempt tocapture images with light sensitive materialsprior to the 18th century.

However, he did notpursue making these results permanent.Around 1800, Thomas Wedgwood made thefirst reliably documented, althoughunsuccessful attempt at capturing cameraimages in permanent form. His experimentsdid produce detailed photograms, butWedgwood and his associate Humphry Davyfound no way to fix these images.
In 1826, Nicéphore Niépce first managed to fixan image that was captured with a camera, butat least eight hours or even several days ofexposure in the camera were required and theearliest results were very crude. Niépce'sassociate Louis Daguerre went on to developthe daguerreotype process, the first publiclyannounced and commercially viablephotographic process.
