Pure Maghreb disco heat! 🔥Ledy Youla’s one and only solo outing after a storied career in bands all across West Africa and his native Mauritania.
It delivers plenty of Youla’s patented sax alongside wailing synths and some power drums - definitely one to check out if you’re into the 80s end of things like Burger-Highlife.
Plus, cover style to die for. We don’t have a dress code, but if we did… 🤔

Azymuth – Águia Não Come Mosca (1977)

We’re still recovering from the absolute trip it was to see LIVE in the Fine City as part of An honour and a privilege, as they say, as well as some of the most impressive playing I’ve seen in a good while. Hats off all round, one for the ages! 🙌

Should you wish to recapture some of those rhythms to some small degree, we will ALWAYS have some Brazilian heat for you at the DISCOTECA PSICODELICA - samba, MPB, disco, and of course a lovely drop of Jazz-Funk for the heads, among plenty of other GLOBAL TREATS! 🇧🇷 🌍 ✨

Absolutely love this LP of soukous from the legendary Congolese vocalist, musician and songwriter. Having cut his teeth in not only African Fiesta but also TPOK Jazz (What a CV!), Mangwana went on to record a number of killer albums as a band leader and solo artist in the following decades.

Star Band De Dakar – Star Band De Dakar - Vol. 6 (1980)

Interesting one this! Picked up from at the last fair (pls do another one soon guys! ✌️) Despite indications to the contrary this isn’t actually Star Band De Dakar, but a Sonafric reissue of an album by fellow Senegalese band Orchestre Cheikh Tall Et Idrissa (Edy) Diope.

All well and good, but all you really need to worry about is just how lush this Afro Cuban beauty sounds in a basement. Luckily for you, we’ve got the answer (spoiler: EXCELLENT) at the next DISCOTECA down at the on FRIDAY 6th! 💃🏽

FUNDRAISING ANNOUNCEMENT🚨

As always, all proceeds from the next Mondo will go to the not-for-profit organisation selected by our guests. We’re delighted to confirm that have chosen for our next night on Friday 6th June.

New Routes does fantastic work in our local community providing support for refugees, asylum seekers and isolated migrants. They promote cross-cultural integration and community awareness in Norwich and have worked with individuals and families from over 80 countries.
