Earth and Air host Bill McLaughlin, environmentalist author novelist, on air radio personality producer and creator of many pamphlets including Coyote Nation, in defense of bears, the pursuit of peace and justice, and others that are as notable.

Bill has pumped his bike across the Nation pedal by pedal in which he wrote in his novel against the wind,, lived and photographed Dinch on the Navajo reservation,
as well as documented notable River trips down the Delaware to witness the state of being that Great River.

I found this picture and I know there's lots of friends of wnti and the rough draft freeform radio program that remember him well.

He's still my great friend and is as the Delaware tribe so presented him with the title of "katani magwa,"
which translates into
"Little River bear"

In 1924, the Blattnerphone, an early magnetic tape recorder, revolutionized the way audio was recorded and played back. Developed by Dr. Kurt Stille and Louis Blattner, this innovative technology was one of the first to use steel tape for magnetic recording, which allowed for more reliable and higher-quality sound reproduction compared to the previously used methods like phonograph records. The device was a breakthrough in the field of audio technology, offering a level of fidelity and convenience that had previously been unattainable.
The Blattnerphone was primarily used by the BBC and other broadcasters to record radio programs for later rebroadcasting, especially for international transmission. Before the advent of tape recorders, radio broadcasts had to be done live or recorded onto fragile discs, which were cumbersome to transport and had limited durability. The Blattnerphone’s magnetic tape allowed for better sound quality and the ability to store recordings for future use, enabling broadcasters to transmit programs to other countries and preserve content for later airings. This capability was especially important for organizations like the BBC, which had a global reach and needed a reliable system for recording and distributing their broadcasts.
While the Blattnerphone was an important step in the development of magnetic recording technology, it was not without its challenges. The steel tape used in the recorder was prone to stretching and wear, and the devices were large and expensive. Nonetheless, it paved the way for future advancements in audio recording, eventually leading to the development of more practical and efficient systems, including reel-to-reel tape recorders and, later, the cassette tape. The Blattnerphone remains a fascinating part of the history of sound recording, marking the beginning of a technological evolution that would transform the media and entertainment industries.

Mary Gannon Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home on Sep. 4, 2024.

Mary "Mef" Catherine Gannon age 68 of Shohola, PA on Sunday September 1, 2024 at 9:45 AM in the Newton Medical Center Newton, NJ, lost her year long battle with cancer and left this physical plane. She was strong and brave throughout her treatment, which was rife with complications. She never complained, never cried unless she saw I was upset, so as not to worry me.
Mef was an extraordinary artist and musician. A Creator of beautiful objects and song. I always say to anyone who knew her "That is who she is, not what she did." It was in every fiber of her being. She had a very large network of wonderful friends and fans as well as she was a musical performer for may years and her art was displayed in local galleries in PA, NY, and NJ. She was a kind and gentle soul and I never met anyone who had a bad thing to say about her.
Mary is survived by her partner of fifteen years at their home which she loved in Shohola, PA, Daniel Dai and her two cats Squeezle and Sq**rt. Also surviving are her mother Wilma Endean, her sister Sharon Gannon-Chambers, and her brother-in-law Todd Chambers all of Barstow, CA, as well as many, many, many, wonderful friends.
Mary was predeceased by her father Richard Gannon Sr. formerly of Morristown, NJ, and recently by her brother Ricky Gannon Jr. formerly of Rockaway, NJ, as well as her singing partner of thirty years Angela Adams formerly of Long Valley, NJ.
Please look up www.mefgannon.com to see Mary's Art and Music..
As per Mary's wishes, funeral arrangements are private and being held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Mary's life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main Street (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ 07860. Online condolences through www.iliff-ruggierofuneralhome.com
