Well, the day has come. After a great many years of enthusiasm and imagination, tonight Persians (and Peirsigh) opens at the Peacock. So so many people in so many places have been a help and an inspiration through all this time - from Heidelberg to Castletown House, from UCLA to the ITI and from Istanbul to Epidaurus. Our podcast got me through the worst of the pandemic in 2020, and a special once-off presentation began this next chapter that has brought us here tonight. It’s meant the world to me. And now I am thrilled that audiences can come and see - and hear - Nuala’s beautiful translation, in our most beautiful, ancient language. I couldn’t be prouder. And I’m full of gratitude to all who have helped me on this mad journey of grief and joy and poetry. I can’t list you all, but I thank every one of you.
And what with it being Mother’s Day tomorrow, I’m sending tonight’s show up in honour of my own dearly-missed mama, who I wish so so badly could see it.
