[Global Protests Recapped: From the streets of LA to Belgrade's University of Arts (Part 2)]

In Part 2, we uncover the motive behind the protests happening amongst Indonesian youths and Serbian citizens. As protests go, both demographics are voicing out their discontent of their governments actions and policies which oppose citizens values and standing. Protesters are met with pushback from police and are ordered to disperse, yet they remain firm with their posters and megaphones in hand, demanding for change.

They serve as a noble example to us all that as a collective, we are capable of inflicting change in the name of peace, justice and equality.

[Global Protests Recapped: From the Streets of LA to Belgrade’s University of Arts (Part 1)]

From Los Angeles to Belgrade, people worldwide are rising up against injustice and oppression. Thanks to our shared history of revolution and resilience, protests have always been a powerful way to demand change. Today, global movements are responding to crises like the ongoing violence in Gaza and political unrest in the US.

Despite arrests, censorship, and hardship, activists everywhere—students, faith leaders, and everyday people—stand united, calling for justice, equality, and peace. These protests remind us that change is possible when we raise our voices together.

Here is Part 1 of our post on the wave of protests happening across the world.

[Happy Gawai & Kaamatan Day 2025]

During time of the year, East Malaysians gather and prepare to celebrate the end of harvest season, a symbolic tradition with generations of history and culture. Kaamatan Day is annually celebrated on the 30th and 31st of May by people of Sabahan descent to honour the sacrifice of Huminodun through festivities such as Sumazau dance performances and Sugandoi singing competitions. Gawai Dayak is also celebrated on a yearly basis on the 1st and 2nd of June by people of Sarawakian descent as their way of expressing gratitude for the prosperous harvest season their tribe has been blessed with. Similarly, the festivities include Ngajat dance and Kuntau performances, amongst many social gathering events.

We here at Bichara Malaya wish you a Happy Harvest Festival and may you be blessed with wellness, prosperity and longevity for the upcoming year!

[Crossing Every Moral Law for Law Class: UiTM students trigger the National parading as the K*K]

What was meant to be a class presentation on white supremacy became a national controversy, sparking outrage, police reports, and a heated debate on academic freedom, cultural sensitivity, and accountability. Law students at UiTM Dengkil paraded in K*K robes around campus — all in the name of ‘education’.

UiTM defended the reenactment as an “educational visual approach “ but critics say this crosses the line between academic freedom and dangerous ignorance. Was this really about raising awareness or just a gross act of ignorance dressed as pedagogy?

[The Rise of AI Art: New Age of Creativity or A Threat to A Tradition?]

Social media was flooded with people fascinated that an AI tool was able to turn a picture of them into Ghibli characters, an art style known as Studio Ghibli art by Hayao Miyazaki. AI tools replicating Ghibli art is ironic however, as Miyazaki himself detests the involvement of machines in art. This notion is not expressed by Miyazaki alone, as many others have expressed their disdain of AI daring to replicate human artistry that is born from the heart.

What is the value of art once it's been able to be replicated by a robot at the cost of betraying artists? Will AI then continue to imitate other artists style, perhaps turning a regular picture into a painting the style of Monet or Picasso?

[Beyond Reasonable Doubt: A Crime called R**e, The Verdict that Failed]

The internet had no fear expressing their discontentment on Ruben Vanstiphout's suspended r**e sentence as being "young and talented" is no excuse to r**e anyone, let alone taking advantage on an intoxicated person. Due to the leniency of his sentence, people of the internet, mostly on Tiktok has taken matters into their own hands and exposed personal information of Vanstiphout's as a way for him to still reap the consequences of his actions.

Vanstiphout is one of the many who has benefited off of "Himpathy" thanks to those who uphold patriarchy's teachings and govern our society. After so much progress brought upon by the feminism and the movement, how do perpetrators of r**e are still able to get away with it and as a bonus garner sympathy for their "foolish actions"?

[The Great Food Debate: Home Kitchen vs Restaurant Table]

Part of the Malaysian food culture involves a balance of dining at a local stall on the roadside and at an established restaurant with central air-conditioning. But as the cost of living rises, people are more inclined to instead be frugal and to only eat out for special occasions. Some argue that it is healthier to cook your own food, while others argue that the cost of eating out is the same as cooking at home. Plus, it can be considered a luxury to have the time to prepare a nutritious meal when taking into account time constraints.

What conclusion will this food debate settle on? Is moderation the key philosophy of food to ensure we provide our bodies sufficient nutrients for a quality life?

[Seeing Through Another's Eyes: How Film Breaks and Redefines Stigma]

Since black and white TV, film has been a tool to convey a story or message to a larger audience. Individuals part of a stigmatised group as society deems them "different" has been using film to educate society on their story which has been reduced to stereotypes. Some of the films produced have shaken audiences and shifted their perception of marginalised societies, though some have caused some harm.

While a film can educate an audience, can it also provide the audience a tutorial on how to discriminate? What will the future of stigma in film entail as some directors efforts backfire in the name of voicing the voiceless?
