I love this infographic! is a dynamic disability because we are human beings. The type and degree of struggles, as well as our sensory sensitivities vary from day to day, sometimes moment to moment.
In this infographic we can see that our experiences have different degrees, what our eyes can see is simply an expression of everything that goes on internally. Because the world is not designed for us, we are often misunderstood, and we are quite often a big ball of mess!!!
Instead of using high, low or moderate use specific descriptions given or shown to you by your .
A functioning label use doesn’t help anybody; your child or the person who wants to know about your child. If your child says “I am a high functioning autistic”, others may not belief we still have to put in extra effort into everything.
Instead, be a detective and explore sensory sensitivities and how to problem solve as much as possible, so the language to self advocate as an autistic person develops early.
I also tell my autistic clients to NOT apologize for what our mind and body cannot do or change. We come as we are, with our and body. We are pushed beyond our limit every day, and others should learn to meet us halfway as well.
Grateful for other working hard and collaborating with each other to make this world a better place for the next generation.
