Connor McDavid disagrees with Pride tape ban: ”I’ve enjoyed all the nights that we've celebrated here in Edmonton, whether that's Pride night or military night or Indigenous night, all the various nights that we've had and had a chance to celebrate. I've always enjoyed them. I can't speak for anyone else or the league. In terms of a league standpoint, is it something that I'd like to see put back into place one day? Certainly”

"One time, we were in the playoffs against Colorado, and Pierre Lacroix was the manager of that team. [The visitors' bench] in the old McNichols Arena was really close to the boards, whereas [the Avalanche] bench was big, with lots of room and a place for the coaches to stand behind the bench. The bench that we used had no bench to stand on, so the coaches had to look over the [players' heads] all of the time. We lost the first two games [of a playoff series] in Colorado and we got back to Edmonton, and I had the building manager change the boards so that ... it was really hard for their guys to get on and off the ice. He moved the bench up really close, and I took the [secondl bench out so there was nothing to stand on. That really pi**ed them off. In those days you could get away with a lot of that petty bu****it.... Now you get warned all the time about doing that kind of stuff. Half of the flavor of the game is gone; there is no fun anymore."

“Even today, when I speak at different events, people ask me, ‘how the hell did Wayne Gretzky ever get 215 points in a season?’ – and my answer is always simple: ‘He was trying to score 300.’ You’ll never confuse Wayne with someone who liked the weight room or the bikes or stuff like that, but I’ll tell you what: That 45 minutes or hour-and-a-half, however long we were on the ice, nobody worked harder than him. And every time he was on the ice, he wanted to score. That made all of us better.”
