This Friday night from 6.30 pm I’ll be live streaming a dj set on Mixcloud. This set is all about 1990’s progressive house - taking influences from Sasha, Digweed, Parks and Wilson, Fabi Paras, Dave Seaman and many others. When house music in the 90’s started to diverge into its many forms the progressive scene broke out. When I lived in Manchester there were coaches going over to Nottingham for Renaissance and Sasha and Digweeds legendary residency. From that residency came the most famous mix cd ever - Sasha and digweed Renaissance! I have a lot of this stuff on vinyl so may be tempted to dip into that.. as well as having vinyl I have loads of cds — there are some great early global underground albums too and listening back as part of my usual process of preparing a set has been great.. tune in - see ya Friday!

My first mix since October! Ive missed it - Ive had the memory stick rammed with tunes and ready to play for about a month and just haven't had the time to get behind them decks. Friday night - got straight on the decks and played all night - this was the result. Some absolute top tunes in this mix....

So now the dust has settled- I made a reel of some of the moments from The Masters at Work 2 and a half hour DJ set at The Hacienda - warehouse project Manchester last Saturday. Anyone who knows me knows these guys are my idols and being able to see them DJ together again after all these years was incredible. There is a reason I have their symbol tattooed on my leg! They are simply the best house music producers/ DJ’s out there. I last saw them together in Ibiza a long time ago. I danced so much and was really chuffed to be able to share the night with my brother James. They finished their set with one of my favourite tunes by them too - To Be In Love….. 💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤

I recorded this set last night. It lasted 7 and a half hours. The tracks on here are late 80’s and 90’s underground house music. You probably haven’t heard many of them . They come from legendary record labels like Strictly Rhythm and Nervous Records to name at few. Using a rotary mixer has made me want to do longer mixes..

The recording of the set went mono in places meaning I had to adjust post set - hopefully the superb sound isn’t spoiled. Using the rotary mixer with Rupert nieve components enabled me to push it into the red which you never do. The top end sounds just gets better.

I hope you like this it’s a journey back to a time when places like the sound factory in the US and clubs like Amnesia in Ibiza were playing this through their DJ’s..

I even got to drop 2 tracks by one of my favourite 90’s electronic bands Fila Brazilia. I was privileged to see Steve Cobby from the duo DJ at Glastonbury just gone….

I dropped some very long tracks in this set, one 22 minutes long - which I would never normally do!

This is the first full DJ set I have ever done using a Rotary Mixer. I have always used a straight up and down fader (parallel) or cross fader for mixing in my 34 years of DJing. The Quality of the mixer is outstanding but it has taken this set and some practice runs to use it. This set is dedicated to a friend and former house mate - Simon - He was one of my Brothers best friends and I have known him since secondary school in Coventry. Simon lost his battle with Cancer on Friday the 20th of June. He managed to put up living with me for a year or so when I lived in Derby and we had a laugh or two. I have dedicated this set in the memory of Simon after gaining permission from his brother Adam - or Little Ad as i used to call him. Rest in Peace Simon 🩵🕊️- Love and Peace Matt x (DJ Sacky:)
