"Brand voice" is different to "brand tone". And don't get me started on "brand tone of voice". 🙇‍♀️

Your brand VOICE should be consistent and authentic. Your brand TONE should allow you to flex in different situations and adapt to what channel you're using and who you're talking to.

Voice and tone together will make it easier for people to connect with you, by demonstrating consistency, authenticity and empathy.

Because people empathise with you if they know what to expect, you speak their language and see their perspective, so they feel that you understand them.

💕When writing something, your words will pack more of a PUNCH when you remove the passiveness from your words.

💕By removing 'ing' from your verbs you create more urgency and impact, and make your actions feel more engaging.

How do you help your audience connect more with each other?

Create opportunities for them to tell stories. To live shared experiences. To share with others. To spark a conversation.

You don't have to be a specifically social brand. Just work on understanding what your audience wants and how you can offer them opportunities to connect with others who feel the same. Make them feel like they belong.

There's a difference between 'purpose led organisations', and having/following your brand purpose.

💕'Purpose led organisations' immediately call to mind brands that create change for the greater good of humanity. And there's been a lot of talk, especially in the last couple of years, that 'purpose led organisations' can come across as disingenuous and overly worthy, especially if they aren't fully living and breathing that purpose in everything they do.

💕However, having, and following, a brand purpose is simply a way to give your brand a bigger reason to exist, more than just making money.

💕Think of it like a North Star, that your business can follow to ensure you stay on track. It doesn't have to be overly worthy, or be for the greater good, it just needs to be honest and aspirational. Find your why and stand by it. Tell people about it. Aim for it in everything you do.

💕Because if you appeal to people's beliefs and values, you compete on far more than just price. You form an emotional connection, build loyalty and keep your customers coming back for more.

How many of us are guilty of thinking our logo and consistent colours is what will make us stand out and be remembered? 🙋Or using whatever voice comes to us that day when writing for our brand? 🙋🙋

🌱But verbal identity is just as important as visual identity when it comes to creating standout for your brand. Words are what we use to invoke emotions and inspire action. Well chosen words are powerful, and often difficult to find.

🌱You wouldn't change your brand colours constantly, they're locked and loaded. So why not do the same for your brand voice? Creating consistency in your phrasing, voice and tone will ensure that you present with impact and resonate with the people that matter.

🌱In the words of Maya Angelou, 'people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel'. Use a consistent voice to make people feel something and make your words, and brand, memorable.
