Congratulations to Brennan Cheyne (Automotive Service) and Kasia Leicht (Computer Aided Manufacturing), who both earned Bronze medals at the 2025 Skills Ontario Competition! Skills Canada - Ontario

In his second year competing, Brennan built on past experience to deliver a standout performance, making history as the first Loyalist Motive Power student to reach the podium after more than eight years of faculty and student participation.

Kasia tackled a complex technical challenge with confidence, using industry-standard software to program, model and simulate a CNC-machined part with accuracy and precision.

We’re proud of every Loyalist competitor who put their skills to the test last week, and grateful to the faculty coaches who support, challenge and inspire students to reach higher. 👏

Summer is around the corner and that means student summer jobs! For many it will be their first job and knowledge about safety precautions will be invaluable!

Read the article, "Empowering the Next Generation of Safety Leaders" by Workplace Safety & Prevention Services. WSPS is a not-for-profit organization that serves to protect more than 4 million Ontario workers on the job in the service, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.

Here are some useful links to keep on hand:

New and Young Worker Resources offers a library of resources from short videos and training tips to articles and downloadable checklists, all created to help reduce health and safety risks to young workers in the workplace.

These resources are directed at both employers and young workers to ensure both parties know and understand their rights and responsibilities under the OHSA.

First Job, Safe Job is an online resource that was launched in the spring of 2024. The site is designed to support parents and caregivers in their quest to keep the young workers in their lives safe on the job.
