SDO-SGA Boosts Scouting Program; Holds Basic Training for New Advisers

The Schools Division Office of Special Geographic Area (SDO-SGA) reinforced its partnership with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) by conducting a Basic Training Course (BTC) for Kawan, Troop, and Outfit advisers on September 5 to 7, 2025, at Nabalawag Elementary School in Nabalawag, SGA, BARMM.

The three-day training aimed to equip newly hired teachers and untrained advisers with the skills to implement Scouting programs aligned with the Seven Attributes of the Bangsamoro Learners. Participants engaged in sessions and activities on Scouting fundamentals for Kab Scouts (Kawan), Boy Scouts (Troop), and Senior Scouts (Outfit), alongside leadership development, program management, and Scouting methods.

Led by the Maguindanao-Cotabato City-SGA Council, the course was spearheaded by Wendel C. Manuop (ALT-Course Leader), with specialized tracks managed by Aida T. Dimen (ALT-ACL for Troop), Felipa T. Castro (ALT - ACL for Kawan), and Marvin Lidot (ALT-ACL for Outfit). Alvin B. Sunsay (CML) coordinated logistics, while Ernesto M. Bernardo (ALT-Council Scout) monitored program quality. Facilitators included Macapagal P. Bedo, Edon M. Antog, Annalyn Marie I. Pobre (CMLs), and Chanda Mae Makasilang, Denmark John Khalil Mascud, Waffa Tahir, and Faudzia D. Kaludin (WBHs).

A division medical team led by Diana Djhoanna Nor (RN) ensured participants’ well-being, supported by Sheryna Mamalangkap (RN), Michael Jake Pendatun (RN), Abdulbasser Mamaluba (RN), and Zairen Gay Tagbo-Kudto (RN). Albin D. Guiane (CML) and Saddam K. Umpong (WBH) provided additional backing, while support staff Sctrs. Rhoeda E. Madato, Vivien Reggie B. Molao, Norhan B. Adam, Rafson Alagasi, and Saddam K. Antog ensured smooth operations.

The training concluded successfully, empowering advisers to foster holistic development through Scouting in their schools.

SDO-SGA Joins MBHTE Writeshop on Contextualized Lesson Guides

The Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE) recently hosted a successful writeshop on developing contextualized lesson guides for Grades 2, 5, and 8, focusing on the 3rd and 4th quarters. The event was held from August 29 to September 5, 2025, in Zamboanga City, bringing together experts from various regions.

A team from the Schools Division Office of Special Geographic Area (SDO-SGA) actively participated, consisting of CID Chief Dr. Abdulsamad M. Maisalat, Education Program Supervisor Dr. Musanip S. Adzal, Education Program Supervisor Dr. Sarah B. Bansil, Dr. Ivy Mae Mamalaguia, Ansare Ganion, and Abduladzis Amil. They played crucial roles as learning resource evaluators, language reviewers, and illustrators.

Led by Curriculum and Learning Division (CLD) Chief Yul Adelfo Olaya, the writeshop united teacher-writers, illustrators, and supervisors from Basilan, Lamitan City, Tawi-Tawi, and mainland SDOs. This collaborative effort aims to create high-quality, contextualized learning materials tailored to the needs of Bangsamoro learners.

By developing these lesson guides, MBHTE demonstrates its commitment to providing relevant and effective education. SDO-SGA's participation underscores its dedication to enhancing student learning experiences and outcomes.

SDO-SGA Conducts Division-Wide Orientation on Administrative Services

Midsayap, Cotabato – August 29, 2025. The Schools Division Office of the Special Geographic Area (SDO-SGA), through its Office of the Support System Division, successfully held a one-day Division-Wide Orientation on Administrative Services at Ace Royale Resto, bringing together ICT representatives and school personnel from across the division.

The activity aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of school administrators and staff in handling administrative tasks, ensuring efficient service delivery for students, teachers, and the wider community. It also served as a venue to foster collaboration and unity among schools under SDO-SGA.

The program opened with a prayer led by Muslimen P. Matangkoy of Manaulanan Elementary School, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the BARMM Hymn by Ms. Almira Magued of Malidegao II. Administrative Officer V Mohidin Samplidan delivered the welcome address and statement of purpose, while Division Supply Officer Jahar K. Dilna acknowledged the participants. Division Sports Coordinator Edon M. Antog also shared a message of support.

Notable speakers included Parida M. Dimasangkay, Acting Head of Records Section; Kryzel Karen A. Solaiman, Acting Disbursement Officer; and Kathleen Gay Dagdag, Acting Records Officer. They tackled topics on administrative procedures, record-keeping, and office management, offering practical insights to streamline processes and improve service efficiency. The Division Technical Working Group, composed of Farissa Omar, Abdulsanny Mangkong and Rafson Alagasi, supported the orientation.

An open forum facilitated by AO-V Samplidan gave participants the chance to raise questions and clarify concerns related to administrative services. The orientation forms part of SDO-SGA’s continuing commitment to professional development, aiming to empower personnel and further uplift the quality of education in the region.

The event concluded with the Kafaratul Majlis prayer led by Shajid Khan Mamalinta of Dabpil High School. SDO-SGA extended its gratitude to all participants, resource speakers, and organizers for their contributions to the program’s success. The program was ably hosted by Ma’am Zandra T. Sampigat.

Health and Nutrition Unit Launches TARA Initiative to Boost School Health Programs

Old Kaabacan, SGA–BARMM, September 4, 2025. With a shared vision of healthier and happier schools, the Health and Nutrition Unit (HNU) Nurses of the Schools Division Office of Special Geographic Area (SDO-SGA) launched the TARA Initiative at Tamped Elementary School and Tamped High School in Old Kaabacan.

Leading the effort was Division Nurse Coordinator Diana Djhoana Nor, RN, together with her dedicated team of nurses, Sheryna M. Mamalangkap, RN; Michael Jake P. Pendatun, RN; Abdulbasser M. Mamaluba, RN; and Zairen Gay A. Tagbo, RN. Their collective goal: to bring health services closer to learners and teachers by ensuring the effective implementation of the six flagship programs under Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OK sa DepEd).

The TARA Initiative is more than just monitoring and evaluation. It is a hands-on approach that offers schools the guidance, technical support, and actionable recommendations they need to improve their health programs. By doing so, the initiative seeks to foster a culture of care, accountability, and wellness where both learners and educators can thrive.

Division Schools Superintendent Edgar S. Sumapal expressed his gratitude and support, noting that the program’s strength lies in teamwork. “The success of TARA depends on the unity of our Cluster Health Coordinators, Cluster Heads, School Heads, and Teachers who work tirelessly to nurture healthier communities,” he said.

The rollout of TARA will continue across different clusters in the division on the following dates:

Pansangay na Pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika 2025, Tagumpay na Isinagawa sa Batulawan

Sa isang makulay at masiglang pagdiriwang, idinaos ang Pansangay na Pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa 2025 noong ika-27 ng Agosto sa Mababang Paaralang Sentral ng Batulawan. Ang temang "Paglinang ng Filipino at Katutubong Wika: Makasaysayan sa Pagkakaisa ng Bangsamoro sa Bansang Pilipinas" ay nagbigay-diin sa kahalagahan ng wika sa pagpapalakas ng ugnayan at pagkakaisa sa rehiyon ng Bangsamoro at sa buong bansa.

Ang pagdiriwang ay naglalayong ganap na maipatupad ang Proklamasyong Pambansa Bilang 1041, na nagtatakda ng Agosto bilang Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa. Layunin din nito na maiangat ang kamalayan ng mga mamamayan tungkol sa wika at kasaysayan, mahikayat ang iba't ibang ahensya na makiisa sa mga programa, at maganyak ang mga Pilipino na pahalagahan ang mga wika ng Pilipinas.

Si Dr. Musanip S. Adzal, Tagapangasiwa ng Programa sa Edukasyon - Filipino, ang nagbigay ng malalim na mensahe tungkol sa tema. "Ang temang ito ay hindi lang paalala. Ito ay panawagan na linangin at pagyamanin ang mga wika ng Pilipinas," ani Dr. Adzal. "Dahil sa kasaysayan ng ating mga bayani at mga ninuno, nakaugat ang ating pagkakaisa, pagkakaunawaan at pagmamahalan."

Ipinahayag ni Hon. Moneralyn P. Alam, kinatawan ng Alkalde ng Bayan ng Malidegao Hon. Arnal "Nayang" Timan ang buong suporta ng lokal na pamahalaan sa pagdiriwang. Tiniyak niya na ang pamunuan ng Malidegao ay kaisa sa lahat ng aktibidad, lalo na sa larangan ng edukasyon.

Sa mensahe ni G. Rey Lester P. Ballano, kinatawan ng Tagapamanihala ng Sangay na si Dr. Edgar Simtim-Sumapal, binigyang-diin niya ang pagkilala, pagpapahalaga, at pagpapaunlad sa mga wika bilang sandigan ng pagkakakilanlan at pagkakaisa. "Sa pamamagitan nito, pinatutunayan natin na ang Wikang Filipino at ang mga katutubong wika ay hindi hadlang sa kaunlaran, kundi ito ay tulay tungo sa mas makabuluhang pagkakaunawaan at pagbubuklod ng Bangsamoro at ng buong Pilipinas," dagdag pa niya.

Nagpaabot din ng mensahe si Gng. Maano Kadingilan, kinatawan ng Kawaksing Tagapamanihala ng Sangay na si Noria G. Mandigan. "Huwag sana nating hayaang mabaon lamang sa limot ang ating sariling wika dahil lamang sa mabilis na pag-unlad ng ating teknolohiya at globalisasyon, bagkus gamitin natin ito bilang sandata upang ipahayag ang ating mga saloobin," wika niya. "Palakasin ang ating mga ugnayan at itanim sa puso ng susunod na henerasyon ang pagmamahal sa sariling wika."

Naging sentro ng pagdiriwang ang mga patimpalak kung saan nagpakitang gilas ang 10 Klaster ng Sangay. Kabilang sa mga patimpalak ang Kulayan ko, Kultura ko, Tagisan ng Talino, Paggawa ng Islogan, Paggawa ng Poster, Isahang Awit (BARMM Hymn), at Create, Show and Tell.

51st Nutrition Month Concludes with a Celebration of Healthy Habits

The Division of Special Geographic Area's (SGA) 51st Nutrition Month culminated with the recognition of artistic talents. Under the resounding theme, "Food Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!", the event showcased the remarkable talent and dedication of young minds passionate about nutrition and healthy living.

The culmination activity marked the successful conclusion of various engaging contests, including poster making, digital poster making, and a vibrant nutri-jingle competition. These activities served as powerful platforms to raise awareness about proper nutrition, food security, and the importance of healthy lifestyles within the community.

The awarding ceremony was the highlight of the event, recognizing exceptional achievements in each category. In the elementary poster making contest, Bae Nida O. Adil of Gokotan Elementary School, Malidegao 1, shone brightly, securing first place under the expert guidance of her coach, Saudia T. Esmael. The secondary level showcased equally impressive talent. April Jannah Baliwan of Matilac High School, Pahamuddin 2, impressed the judges with her digital poster, while the grade 12 students of Matilac High School—Norsisa Macmod, Mariam Kusain, Norhaya Talusan, Laila Kusay, and Mohmina Kusay—captured the hearts of the audience with their winning nutri-jingle, expertly coached by Kimberly Anne P. Farillon.

The Division Health and Nutrition Unit (HNU), the driving force behind this successful event, deserves immense praise. Their tireless efforts, spearheaded by Diana Djoanna Nor, RN, MPA (Nurse In-charge), Abdulbasser M. Mamaluba, RN, LPT, Sheryna M. Mamalangkap, RN, Zairen Gay T. Schools Division Superintendent Edgar Simtim-Sumapal's message resonated deeply with the audience. HWPL, SDO-SGA Seal Partnership for Peace Education

In a meaningful move toward fostering peace and nurturing values-based education, the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) and the Schools Division Office–Special Geographic Area (SDO-SGA) officially entered into a partnership on July 30, 2025, during a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony held at Red Palm Restaurant, Midsayap, Cotabato.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in both organizations’ shared commitment to promote peace through education. HWPL, an international non-governmental organization recognized for its global peace initiatives, continues to strengthen its presence in Mindanao, especially in communities where cultural and tribal diversity thrives.

SDO-SGA Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Edgar S. Sumapal Al-Haj expressed optimism about the collaboration. “This partnership will enable us to promote peace-centered programs, revive time-honored values like respect for diverse cultures, faiths, and tribes, and most importantly, foster a culture of unity among our learners,” he said. His message underscored the division’s vision of shaping young minds not just academically, but morally and socially as well.

Present during the ceremony were HWPL National Coordinator Alecka Mae Fajardo-Carcallas and Deputy General Director Ms. Songmi Lee, who both emphasized HWPL’s long-term dedication to peace education. Their presence reflected the organization’s hands-on approach in building bridges with local institutions.

The event was also graced by key representatives from SDO-SGA, including Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Noria G. Mandigan (represented by Maano Kadingilan), Education Program Supervisors Kuyad Mascud, Ali Zumbaga, and Dr. Sarah Bansil. Cluster Heads Dr. Roden W. Matiman, Dr. Nasrudin B. Pandulo, Dr. Maysara Musa, Daton Ayob, Rayhana Ali, Nasser Sepi, Edon Antog, Ibrahim Nandang, and Longlong Afdal (represented by School Head Zuharto Abas), as well as Fatima Emblawa (represented by School Head Bai Puti Mascud), also lent their support. Cluster Peace Coordinators Chrisma Trinidad, Rubielyn Celestino, and Tuday Zainal further highlighted the local commitment to peace building.

Emceed by Nurse Abdulbasser Mamaluba, the program showcased the collaborative spirit of both institutions in promoting holistic education that goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. The partnership aims to launch peace education activities and initiatives that will directly benefit students, teachers, and the broader community.

With this partnership, HWPL and SDO-SGA hope to plant the seeds of peace in every classroom nurturing not only informed learners, but also future advocates of harmony, understanding, and cooperation across diverse communities in Mindanao.

SGA Participants Showcase Excellence at Regional STEM Training

The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) recently concluded its intensive training for STEM teachers, held from July 22-25, 2025, at the Avior Hotel in General Santos City. The event, themed "Teaching Tomorrow Today: STEM Strategies for Navigating Innovation, Sustainability, and Societal Impact," equipped participants with cutting-edge pedagogical approaches, emphasizing the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.

The training culminated in a showcase of innovative instructional materials developed by participating teams. Each team was challenged to create an instructional material incorporating AI, utilizing the design platform Canva. The Division of Special Geographic Area (SGA) garnered multiple awards during the closing ceremony.

Several teams from the division achieved remarkable success. The team of Shajid Khan M. Mamalinta of Datu Guilem Piang High School secured the prestigious award for Best Instructional Material in Physics. The collaborative efforts of Roydah B. Pandulo and Analie S. Antaon (Gokotan High School), Loramae L. Faunillo (Manuangan High School - Datu Binasing Annex), Romel D. Tagud (Pebpoloan High School), and Normida A. Samsudin (Mindanao Islamic Foundation Polytechnic College Inc.) were recognized with the Engagement Excellence award for Physics, demonstrating exceptional teaching material. Furthermore, the team of Akmad K. Atog (Pebpoloan High School) and Montaser A. Indinga (Datu Guilem Piang High School) received the Engagement Excellence award for Chemistry.

The achievements extended beyond group projects. Roydah B. Pandulo and Analie S. Antaon of Gokotan High School showcased exceptional individual proficiency. They achieved the highest scores on the post-test, answering all but one question correctly, and also completed a pre-activity challenge during the Earth Science breakthrough session faster than any other participant.

Mayla A. Butuan, the Division Science Focal and Education Program Supervisor, expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of the SGA participants. Their success underscores the dedication and talent within the division and highlights the transformative potential of integrating AI into STEM education. The training's impact will undoubtedly enhance the quality of STEM education in the division and beyond, fostering a new generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

SDO-SGA Undergoes Brigada Eskwela Validation

The Schools Division Office of the Special Geographic Area (SDO-SGA) recently underwent a rigorous Brigada Eskwela validation, a crucial step in ensuring the readiness of its schools for the upcoming academic year. This initiative, mandated by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Brigada Eskwela implementation across all participating schools.

The validation team, comprised of esteemed personnel from the MBHTE-BARMM and SDO-SGA, meticulously assessed various aspects of the program. The team included: Dr. Alizabre D. Sungka (Chief, School-Based Management Division – MBHTE-BARMM), Jemraisa S. Mangkong (Head, SBM Section), Lynito S. Tadle (Education Program Specialist II, SBM Section), Dr. Ramon G. Canseco (SBM Program Management Coordinator), and Junodin R. Solayman (SDO-SGA, SBM Division Focal).

Their evaluation focused on three key areas: stakeholder engagement, resource mobilization, and overall school preparedness. The team sought to identify best practices and areas needing improvement to optimize future Brigada Eskwela activities and ensure full compliance with MBHTE standards.

On July 17, 2024, the team embarked on a comprehensive site visit, covering schools in both the Tugunan and Nabalawag clusters. In Tugunan, they assessed Balong Elementary School (headed by Anisa P. Mamental), Balong High School (headed by Zuharto H. Abas), and Lagundi Elementary School (headed by Longlong F. Afdal). The afternoon session took the team to Dabpil Sampulna Olandang High School Annex (headed by Montaser A. Indinga), Nabalawag High School (headed by Janipa P. Maulana), Endaila Silongan Central Elementary School (headed by Fatima E. Emblawa), and Kapinpilan High School (headed by Faodzia E. Endaila) in the Nabalawag cluster.

This thorough evaluation process underscores the MBHTE's commitment to providing quality education in the SDO-SGA. The findings of this validation will undoubtedly play a vital role in shaping future Brigada Eskwela initiatives, ensuring that all schools are well-equipped and prepared to welcome students for a successful academic year.

SGA STEM Teachers Receive Boost Through SMARTs Training

The Schools Division Office of Special Geographic Area (SDO-SGA) participated in a pivotal training program aimed at enhancing science and mathematics education in the region. The Science and Mathematics Acceleration Readiness for Teachers and Schools (SMARTs) training program, held from July 22-25 at the Avior Hotel in General Santos City, focused on equipping educators with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The training, themed "Teaching Tomorrow Today: STEM Strategies for Navigating Innovation, Sustainability, and Societal Impact," was initiated by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in partnership with the Philippine Science High School (PSHS). The program's goal was to significantly improve teachers' competencies in scientific concepts, modern teaching methodologies, and the effective integration of digital tools into science instruction, all aligned with the K-12 curriculum.

Jehan A. Usop, MAPDS, Acting Minister of MOST, underscored the vital role teachers play in shaping the future of Bangsamoro youth, highlighting the necessity of providing them with the tools and knowledge to effectively deliver lessons.

Edman H. Gallamoso, Campus Director of Philippine Science High School – SOCCSKSARGEN, expressed his gratitude for the collaboration between MOST and PSHS, emphasizing the shared commitment to improving science education in the region.

Nine teachers representing the Division of Special Geographic Area (SGA) participated in the intensive training. These representatives included Loramae L. Faunillo (Manuangan High School - Datu Binasing Annex, Shajid Khan M. Mamalinta and Montaser A. Indinga (Datu Guilem Piang HS); Normida A. Samsudin (Mindanao Islamic Foundation Polytechnic College, Inc.); Akmad K. Atog and Romel D. Tagud (Pebpoloan HS); Roydah B. Pandulo and Analie S. Antaon (Gokotan HS); and Mayla A. Butuan (SDO-SGA's Education Program Supervisor).

The SMARTs training program represents a significant step towards modernizing science education in the Bangsamoro region, empowering teachers to effectively prepare the next generation of scientists, innovators, and leaders.

Division-Wide Orientation on Phil-IRI and RMA: Empowering Grades 4-12 Educators for Enhanced Learning

Yesterday, July 18, 2025, a representative for Key Stages 2, 3, and 4 from every school across the Division of Special Geographic Area gathered at Marah's Function Hall in Pikit, Cotabato for a comprehensive orientation on the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) and Rapid Math Assessment (RMA). The event, graced by Dr. Abdulsamad M. Maisalat, CID Chief, aimed to equip teachers with the skills and knowledge necessary to accurately assess the reading and mathematical abilities of students in Grades 4-12.

The orientation provided a robust and multifaceted approach to assessment. Alvin B. Sunsay, Division TLE Coordinator, expertly laid the groundwork with a comprehensive introduction to the Phil-IRI. Building on this foundation, Musanip S. Adzal, EdD, meticulously guided participants through the step-by-step process of administering the Phil-IRI. His presentation extended to practical applications, including conducting the Group Screening Test and identifying common reading miscues. Crucially, the session also delved into interpreting the reading levels revealed by the assessment.

Shifting focus to mathematics, Rayhana Pendi-Ali, Division English, LAC and Reading Coordinator, introduced the RMA, offering a complementary tool for evaluating students' mathematical proficiency. Abdul Alilaya, Division Senior High School Coordinator, further enhanced the understanding of the program by focusing on the application of the Group Screening Test specifically for Grade 11 students.

The success of the orientation was a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Division Technical Working Group (DTWG). Mayla A. Butuan (Education Program Supervisor), Edon M. Antog (Division Sports Coordinator), Rhoeda Madato (Division MAPEH Designate), and Junodin Solaiman (Division SBM Focal), played instrumental roles in ensuring a smooth and productive event. Their dedication contributed significantly to the overall effectiveness of the training.

This division-wide initiative underscores a commitment to enhancing the quality of education by providing teachers with the necessary tools to accurately assess student learning and tailor instruction accordingly. The comprehensive orientation on Phil-IRI and RMA empowers educators to better support the academic growth of their students, ultimately contributing to a more effective and enriching learning experience for all.
