Raymond was counting down the days to Carnival in Port of Spain. The
colourful
parades,
infectious
Soca
rhythms, and jubilant atmosphere beckoned him, but there was one
problem
—
his boss, Mr. No Days Off.
As the festival approached, Raymond approached his office, hopeful for some time off. “Ease
me up, I’ve been working round the clock?” he asked, heart racing. But his Bossman, always
focused on work, replied sternly, “I need you here. We can’t afford any d
istractions right
now.”
Raymond felt crushed. His colleagues shared their carnival plans, while he remained stuck
cleaning the office . The closer Carni
val came, the more the frustration built inside him. He
longed for the celebrations, the masquerade, and the sweet sounds of
Soca
and chutney
waiting just outside.
On Fete day, with temptation swirling around him, Raymond made a bold decision. Ignoring
his boss’s demands, he called in sick, throwing on his carnival gear and stepping into the
vibrant chaos of the streets.
For one glorious day, he embraced the spirit of Carnival, feeling alive in a way that offices
and deadlines could never offer. Raymond
realized that life was about more than work; it was
about celebrating who you are and where you come from.
Even if the Bossman wouldn’t understand, this day was his to own.
