The Barangay Canada Project aims to document and share how newcomer communities in rural areas of Canada integrate and thrive in their respective locales. Barangay is a Philippine term for a small village, indicating that the project's focus is on Filipino newcomers initially, but with plans to expand to other ethno-cultural groups.
The Manitoba chapter, Barangay Manitoba, has a print media presence as a column in the Manitoba Filipino Journal. The Lola in Manila page chronicles the activities of Angie Martinez, founding member of the Filipino Seniors in Manitoba (FILSIM) as she goes around various locations in Manila and other places of interest and shares her stories with our kababayan in Canada and Manitoba, especially those who have not visited the Philippines in a long while.
