The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday denied allegations that the aide of former lawmaker Zaldy Co was unlawfully detained, beaten, and flown to Chile to prevent him from testifying on anomalous flood control projects.

In a statement, the NBI said it issued the remark to “clarify and correct the misleading allegations made by former Congressman Mike Defensor” regarding Co’s aide, John Paul Estrada, and his wife.

“We categorically deny the claims that Mr. Estrada and his wife were beaten or harmed… that they were unlawfully held by NBI personnel; and… they were provided with fake passports or flown out of the country to prevent testimony,” the NBI said.

President Bongbong Marcos has accepted the resignations of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.

In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro praised both officials for their service to the administration.

Former congressman Zaldy Co earlier implicated Pangandaman in the P100-B insertions in the 2025 national budget.

Castro noted that, although the allegations raised by Co lack substantial weight, Bersamin and Pangandaman voluntarily submitted their resignations to give way for the investigation into in flood control projects.

Meanwhile, Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) Undersecretary Adrian Bersamin also resigned.

He was identified by Co as a Palace official who supposedly confirmed the President's insertion orders.

Finance Secretary Ralph Recto will replace Bersamin.

Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick Go will take over as the new Finance Secretary.

The Department of Budget and Management will now be led by Undersecretary Rolando Yu-Toledo as Officer-in-Charge.
