Bruce Hornsby’s music has enriched my life in numerous ways. His songs have been the background music to many heartbreaking and heartwarming scenes of my life story.
“The Way It Is” bonded me and the late Gene Alexander—my best friend and fellow humanitarian. It was Gene’s theme song. As a paraplegic [post-diving accident], Gene fought many prejudices and narrowminded asshats throughout his adult life. He and I would discuss how Hornsby’s music gave us strength and hope when challenged by life and people.
When the opportunity to interview Mr. Hornsby came about, I was nervous. They say you should never meet your heroes. I’m pleased to share that Mr. Hornsby was not only a fascinating interview, but he is a kind and thoughtful person who continues to impact countless lives. He illuminates young artists and continues to open minds and hearts.
His latest contributions to the music industry build upon an already extraordinary legacy!
