George MacLuren was the first black person to be admitted to the University of Oklahoma in 1948.
He was forced to sit in the corner of the classroom, away from all students and professors, but his name remains on the honor roll, as one of the three best students in the college.

On one occasion he stated:
"Some colleagues looked at me like I was an animal, nobody wanted to talk to me, the professors didn't pay attention to me and didn't even want to question me"
I found strength in all that and devoted myself even more to learning.

Not long after that, students started approaching me and asking me to explain and clarify various issues.
I was overjoyed to be able to help them.

The only weapon capable of transforming the world is education. "
