I am saddened to share the news of the passing of our beloved brother, Muhammed Touray. Muhammed, a former student of Anne Marie Javouhey (Brusubi phase 2) and Nusrat Senior Secondary School, was a shining academic star, achieving remarkable success in the 2019 WAEC examinations with 9As.

Tragically, Muhammed's journey was cut short while pursuing further studies in the United States of America. Now, we are urgently seeking donations to repatriate his remains back to his homeland, The Gambia, for burial.

Gambia is a funny country! When we(EVERYONE) entrust our provisions in foreign hands 🙌 ni rek let’s all suffer for it. A country of pride, a country of fake lives and resentfulness.

1. Bread (foreign)
2. Rice (foreign)
3. Clothes (foreign)
4. Mini-markets & Supermarkets (foreign)
5. Fishing (foreign)
Etc & Etc.

I cannot imagine, you live and grew up in this country still you cannot control things. People who were not born in The Gambia, not grew up in this country are making it. Do you know why? This is very simple:

1. The Gambian is consume with pride to start from zero, work hard, embrace difficulties to earn for a living.

2. The Gambian will have a decent job, blow his/her salaries in the clubs and bars within a week.

3. Gambian will be sitting in the ghettos or sleeping, partying throughout, wake up and beg again.

4. The Gambian laughs and mock their fellow Gambians who are fighting tooth and nail with their low earning job to feed their families.

5. The Gambian will not invest on his/her fellow gambians.

6. The Gambian tycoons don’t replicate themselves but rather want you to suffer same way as they did or even block you not to be like them.

7. The Gambian doesn’t cherish or trust his fellow Gambians.

8. The Gambian is filled with endless dreams and does nothing about them.

9. The Gambian can buy expensive cars, phones and compounds whilst his/her own families are dying with hunger.

10. The Gambian will rather enrich others than his own fellow Gambians.

11. The Gambian will be busy on “boy today the chill is here” or “boy let’s rent a car go flex” the list goes on.

You can’t love your country when you don’t love your people and also your problem will never solve when you think someone else will solve it for you.

National Youth Parliament - The Gambia

National Youth Parliament The Gambia in partnership with the Minstry of Transport, Work and Infrastructure and University of The Gambia Students Association of Public and Environmental Health present National Youth Road Safety Forum.

Hinged on the : Making a Clarion Call for Action to Remedy the National Road Safety Crises, the forum seeks to identify road safety challenges in the country - focusing on the root causes of road accidents and gaps in policy and legal frameworks with the main objective of proferring solutions.

The forum which aims to bring together all relevant stakeholders on road safety, will take the shape of panel discussions, breakout sessions/focus group discussions with the aim of garnering recommendations that will inform the next plan of action of the organisations.

The Youth Parliament has a longstanding history of creating awareness and advocating for legislations to improving road safety in The Gambia. In 2008, the organisation played a key role in the enactment of The Gambia Motor Traffic Act.

UTG-SAPEH stems from a department that is renowned for its stern reputation in research with the university and had been outstanding in Road Safety awareness creation and commemoration of World Road Safety Week. Both organisations participated immensely in the development and validation of the National Road Safety Strategy 2020-2030.

LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT

Dear Mr President,

We are worried and our safety is at stake. The crime rates of this country is overwhelming nowadays: The killing, the robbery, the kidnapping till when.
The past Wednesday, a school boy has to grip my hand because he was so terrified and to me he wanted to cross the road but then when I helped him crossed, he told me that I am going to tipper garage and luckily I was heading on the same route. The traffic was blocked and the young boy told me let's not take taxi because I am afraid then I told him let's go and take a Van. Even though I was boarding off at saffiding Junction but I had no choice than to enter the Van and accompanied the school boy.

Moreover, The Gambia is at a crucial stage heading towards elections and this should have been a catalyst to have a crime free nation. Nobody knows what could happen in subsequent months. But then Your Excellency sir, you are silent about it and it is killing us. If you kindly reference from other countries the killings of their citizens, their heads of states usually empathise with them by releasing statements or by addressing their nations.

Subsequently, the past regimes despite everything the crime rates were lesser but now most of the bandits within the sub regions are here in The Gambia. Not forgetting our own Gambian thugs too.

There are lots of implications for not addressing these issues with immediate effects:
1. Investors could run away
2. Tourists may be terrified to come to The Gambia
3. The business could collapse
4. Up risings may emerge.

All these could revolve around the intimidation of high crime rates.

Where is our most celebrated attribute which is "The Smiling Coast of Africa". Are we turning into the "the Fearing Coast of Africa".

Repeated exposure to crime and violence may linked to an increase in negative health outcomes. For example, people who fear crime in their communities may engage in less physical activity. As a result, they may report poorer self-rated physical and mental health.

Kudos to the Operation Zero Crime you are doing a great work but let the operations be more intensified.

Finally, It is of its urgency for a rescue in this matter your excellency🙏🏾because you should not worry only about your personal security but also the security of the entire Gambians.
