India's first hydrogen-powered train, running on the 89-km Jind-Sonepat route, is set to be launched soon as the Northern Railway project enters its final preparation stage, the Haryana government said on Tuesday.

The train will be powered by a dedicated green hydrogen plant in Jind, the country's largest, with a 3,000-kg storage capacity, now in its final commissioning phase.

To ensure uninterrupted operations, the state has guaranteed a stable 11 kV, 24×7 power supply to the plant.

Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi reviewed arrangements with DHBVN officials, directing regular power audits, strong backup systems, and rapid-response mechanisms.

By replacing diesel with hydrogen fuel cells, the train will emit only water vapour and heat, placing India alongside Germany and China in the push for zero-emission rail transport.
