You’ve seen the footage—now it’s time for some stills. 📸

Sharing a few test snaps from my Lumix G9 II! These are straight-out-of-camera shots using Lumix’s new Real Time LUT feature, which lets you load custom color profiles directly into the camera—baking in your chosen look into JPEGs. Familiar concept? 🤭

I dug into the new Lumix Lab app and found some great looks by . Loaded up his Spring LUT and took it for a spin. ⚙️

I started with natural light by the window, moved on to making the most of a house bulb and budget softbox, and now experimenting with actual lighting gear—learning how to shape light and how it behaves in a space. 💡

In today’s post, I’m giving you a behind-the-scenes look at how I light my talking head videos with a few simple techniques I use to add softness, glow, and a bit of polish to the shot.

Big thanks to YouTube University for being the real MVP. It’s honestly been fun just trying things out, testing setups, and slowly refining the look over time.

A quick reminder though, lighting and looks are super subjective. You just gotta find what looks good and works for you. It's a fun process after all so make sure to enjoy it.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I love sharing behind-the-scenes setups and lighting breakdowns. 💡

It’s my way of reviewing what worked, what didn’t, and spotting those little wins that just feel right.

It’s also a way to pass on bits of learning from these ongoing lighting and cinematography experiments, because we’re all growing and figuring this out together. 🎬

This shoot in particular was a favorite. I managed to get a look I really liked (lighting’s always subjective, right?) using just a cheap-o shower curtain for diffusion. ✨

I actually haven’t pushed the HiDock P1 to the best of its abilities yet, but it’s already been a huge help for creating detailed summaries of videos and classes I’m learning from. 💡

It’s like having an AI note taker and personal assistant in one — not only does it break things down for me, it even lists out action items I can take next. That’s real value right there. 💪🏻

It’s me and my wife as doodles by .film ✨

The first time I saw China's work, I just knew I had to commission her to create a piece for us in her unique style. ✍🏻

And with our epic first trip to Japan late last year, it’s the perfect piece to remember our awesome time there. 🇯🇵

Gotta give props to Chai for her eye for detail. She nailed everything, from our couple outfits down to the tiny accessories on our doodle versions. She even noticed I had a water bottle in my backpack in one of the reference photos hence me holding a water bottle as we walk. As Chai put it: "Gotta stay hydrated on vacay!" 🥤
