🥈 A late penalty was the difference once again as the Singapore Premier League (SPL) Selection fell 2-1 to Selangor Selection in the Sultan of Selangor’s Cup yesterday.

📝 The home side put out a strong starting lineup featuring regulars such as Faisal Halim and Zach Clough, while the SPL Selection fielded experienced heads like Hassan Sunny, Shakir Hamzah, and Safuwan Baharudin.

🥅 Winger Harry Danish put Selangor Selection ahead at the Merdeka Stadium, only for Albirex Niigata forward Takumi Yokohata to level the score just before the break.

🎯 However, substitute Chrigor Moraes converted a late penalty to ensure Selangor lifted the trophy for the fourth year running.

💪 In the earlier Veterans clash, Singapore triumphed over their Selangor counterparts in a 3-2 penalty shootout win after the score remained goalless at full-time.

Safuwan Baharudin will return to familiar territory after the defender was named in a 20-strong SPL selection squad that will contest the Sultan of Selangor’s Cup 2025 in Kuala Lumpur this Saturday (27 September).

📝 While nine players from Albirex made the squad, only two from the Sailors and none from BG Tampines Rovers were included due to their ACL2 commitments.

📆 The reigning SPL champions take on Selangor FC the following Wednesday (1 October), before the Stags face BG Pathum United the next day (2 October).

❌ Although Safuwan is currently on loan at the Sailors from Selangor, he is ineligible to face his parent club.

🏥 With Noor Ali on medical leave due to an injury, Keiji Shigetomi will take charge of the team.

⚔️ The festivities at the Merdeka Stadium will begin with a match between the Singapore legends and their Selangor counterparts at 8pm, before the SPL Selection squad lock horns with Selangor Selection in the headline act at 9pm.

The FIBA Intercontinental Cup (ICC) marked it's return to Singapore in dramatic fashion with NBA G League United claiming a win at the buzzer.

The North American team climbed to a 23-point advantage in the third quarter, before an unreal shooting display saw Flamengo, the winners of the Basketball Champions League Americas knock down 13 three-pointers in the second half alone.

With the score tied at 91-all with two seconds left to play, Jaden Shackelford hit the floater to set the final score at 93-91.

Meanwhile, defending champions Unicaja were on cruise control as they began their title defence with a 73-61 win over Alahli SC.

A mixed opening night in the AFC Champions League Two for the two Singaporeans clubs.

The Sailors had to dig deep to rescue a point against the Indonesians with substitue Lennart Thy's glancing header in stoppage time finding the net.

In the earlier kickoff, BG Tampines Rovers continue their fine start as they romp to a comfortable 3-0 away win over Philippines side Kaya FC, with free-scoring Trent Buhagiar finding the net again.

Three goals, three points for the Stags.

Goals from either sides of the half through Takeshi Yoshimoto & Glenn Kweh and a late finish from Koya Kazama give new coach Noh Rahman a winning start.

Just days after Akbar Nawas departure, the 45-year old started with almost the same eleven with Taufik Suparno coming in for Trent Buhagiar as the only change.

Tanjong Pagar's Zaiful Nizam had an impressive first-half to keep the score level, but the visitors eventually found a breakthrough in the 43rd minute, and later doubled their lead just after the restart through a cool finish by Glenn Kweh.

There was also time for a debut from new signing Tara Ndao as Tampines go top on Saturday evening.

They will next travel to the Philippines to kickoff their ACL2 campaign against Kaya FC on Wednesday.
