GARDEN GAMES

This time I saw a bougainvillea bush
Swaying and swinging in the breeze
I saw more than the twigs and thorn
Pink-red flowers and dancing leaves

What I saw in the garden when
This time a bougainvillea swung and swayed
A fancy duel was being enacted
A naughty little game, being played !

Wind armed with invisible tricks
And an all-pervading open-armed embrace
Pinned down the healthy bush
Which, not worried, went down with grace

And mighty wind, greatly pleased with this
Released its hold of the arm-less hug
The bush, equal to the challenge, bowed
Back as if with a gentle shrug

And then to tease the erstwhile conqueror
Leaves of the bush made a flirting dance
Then wind came back with a stronger force
Now it seemed, the bush didn’t stand a chance

This alternating win and loss
This leafy flirt and faceless toss
Went on for an hour and quarter
And unknowingly made me smarter

This time someone made me see
A rare , new kind of beauty !!

OUT OF THE BOX
THIN KING ???

Is it out of the box thinking?
Or an out of the box 'thin king'?

Thin king is almost an abnormality
as fatheads are being elected in every single city

and....'Thinking king' is seldom a possibility...
people simply vote….they don’t check the ability

In these places called mature democracies
We often come across certain hypocrisies

Those who think , are out of the mainstream anyway !
Let them think ; in or out of the box…while we make hay!

BAR GLASS TUMBLER (pov poem)

I am a young glass tumbler
In an old and popular bar
Where people come and …well…drink
They come at every hour .

In my life of sixteen months
I have seen many different lives
Some are bachelors…so they drink
Some do….as they have wives !

There was this young man
Only recently engaged
Had stars in his eyes
But left me …chipped and outraged !

I sat once at a table
With a seasoned businessman
Who was with some officers
Bargaining on some secret plan …

Once I joined my other friends
In a ladies ‘kitty’ party
Where men, too, were invited
Jokes were clean….but meanings dirty !

I distinctly remember
The day with those two regulars
Who were fat….foul smelling
And bottomed-up…us poor tumblers !

But the one I liked the most
was a not-a-well-to-do poet
Who nursed me….put his lips
And kissed…..and I loved him for it !

NEW EDUCATION POLICY ?

( from U TURN )

A child should study for Masters
For M Phil and PhDs

As he is the one who can
Give some meaning to these degrees !

All married men should study
For a regular bachelor’s course
As they can learn up to a point
.. but cram up things of course !

In the primary classes
One should have over ‘fifty’
As… they are the ones who need it
And would not mind the heavy fee.

Now, for the kindergarten,
The right stuff are those retired
As these men need some fun
..songs and games.. to be inspired .

The whole outlook on education
Needs a revolutionary U TURN
Each to his needs should be the aim
Not to his age, as is the pattern !

Or else we shall have
The picnic as is now. those studying for Masters.. are slaves
of who’s who… not of how ..

And the blessed bachelor’s classes
Are simply filled with fools
…. Who have divorced all reason
… only wedded to the rules !!!

ACADEMIC FUDGE

Take a lad who is bright

With an average or over IQ

Peel off his creative urges

Put him in a scholarly stew

Then boil this green adolescent

For full term of secondary years

And dip him in some Univ.

To cool off the remaining ‘fears’.

Now take out this fully…

Schooled….Lump of a man

And marinate him in Ph. D.

To unlearn….whatever he can !

You now have a ready teacher

Who tastes like academic sure

And if the processing was thorough

You can bet….he is 99% pure !

Then take this Rich Scholar

Make him teach some classes

This works as a wooden cask….

He shall mature….as do molasses …

When fermentation is over…

When he has taught for ten years

You have a graying species

Who by books and papers swears !

Now this middle aged preparation

Is ripe to become a professor

And if the ‘yeast’ has succeeded

He can be the VC’s successor!

One note of caution and restraint….

Is a must for this recipe….

Never expose it to ‘open’ air

Keep it covered with some degree !!!

DESIGN DEFECT

Looking at our buildings
I often reflect...
That we've learnt a lot...yet nothing
from nature's architect !

We make rectangular boxes
with straight walls and beams
structurally...may be sound....
but un live able...it seems ...

Is it not possible....
a tree like constuction ?
could be more pleasant
and perform a full function .....!

Can we not think of
buildings with hilly contour..a solace to the eyes...
housing both rich and poor...
