Survey: Osun residents blame FG, APC over LG funds seizurePublished on August 25, 2025

By Francis Ezediuno

A new survey has revealed growing public resentment in Osun State against the Federal Government and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over the continued seizure of local government allocations.

The report, released by Geopolitical Survey International, GSI, indicated that many residents consider the action as illegal, unconstitutional, and detrimental to grassroots development.

The survey, conducted between August 1 and 5, 2025, sampled 10,000 respondents across nine federal constituencies in the state.

The respondents comprised 60 per cent women and 40 per cent men, drawn from Osogbo, Ile Ife, Ikirun, Iragbiji, Iwo, Ila Orangun, Ikire, Ejigbo, Ede, Ilesa, Odeomu, Ilobu, Esa Oke, Ipetumodu, and Kuta.

According to the findings, “women are the most affected by the crisis, with 84 per cent of respondents identifying them as bearing the heaviest brunt. Ten per cent said men were most impacted, while six per cent remained undecided.”

On responsibility for the situation, 86 per cent of respondents blamed the Federal Government, 11 per cent blamed the state government, while three per cent expressed no clear view.

The political consequences also emerged strongly in the report.

The report said, “Eighty-seven per cent of respondents vowed to vote against the APC in subsequent elections, while 85 per cent expressed readiness to back the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if elections were conducted today. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled two per cent support.”

Lead consultant for GSI, Dr Adeyemo Adeyefa, said the results demonstrated “solid home support for the state government in its encounter with the Federal Government and reflected the growing anger of indigenes and residents against the APC.”

He explained that the survey suggested the allocation seizure had, “increased hardship for womenfolk in Osun State and had significantly weakened the APC’s acceptance across the state.”

According to him, “the survey showed a notable rise in support for the PDP, which grew from 65 per cent three months ago to almost 85 per cent by August.

“This outcome indicates that the APC strategy may have backfired, as the fund seizure has boosted the public appeal of the PDP and strengthened the state government’s support base,” Adeyefa said.

He noted that the study was the fifth carried out by GSI since January and pledged further refinement of the organisation’s polling methodology in future projects.

PRESS STATEMENT

For Disobeying Court Order on Osun LGs, Osun PDP Drags AGF, Oyetola Before Global Rights Groups and Diplomatic Community

The Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dragged the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Lateef Fagbemi and the Blue Economy Minister, Adegboyega Oyetola before western embassies and global right groups for orchestrating disobedience of court order on Osun local government leadership.

The party accused the duo of plotting and executing the current local government crisis in Osun state through deliberate disobedience of a Court of Appeal judgment recognizing PDP elected chairmen and councillors and through callous withholding of local government allocations for the past five months.

Rather than ensuring compliance with the court order, the party pointed accusing fingers at Mr Oyetola for deploying his family relationship with President Bola Tinubu to illegally withhold Osun local governments allocations without any valid legal basis.

Citing various legal details leading to the last Court of Appeal judgement which upheld the legality of the PDP chairmen and councillors, the PDP reported to the global community that the Attorney-General and the Marine and Blue Economy Minister are insisting on paying Osun local government fund to court sacked APC chairmen.

“We found this development worrisome and an open threat to democratic governance. We call on the Western embassies and global rights community to sanction the two federal officials for actions and conduct capable of truncating democracy in Osum state," Hon. Bisi noted.

“We seek visa ban and other sundry punitive actions to force these federal officials to comply with the rule of law. This is a democracy and no individual should be allowed to breach the constitution and due process as Mr Oyetola and the AGF are doing in Osun state.

“We seek interventions in terms of investigations, compilation and dissemination of reports on democratic threats in Osun state and its implications for the state and national elections of 2026 and 2027;

“We request for investigations of all sources of threats to democracy using Osun as a point of reference including the anti-democratic activities of the Nigerian Minister of Marine ans Blue Economy, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, who is a cousin to Mr President.

“We crave that the diplomatic community and right groups adopt the Osun 2026 gubernatorial elections as a pre-2027 test case by highlighting risks and opportunities as the elections draw nearer”, the party was quoted as saying.

The PDP vowed to persist in pushing its protests from the Transparency International, International Crisis Group, Amnesty International to Western Embassies and the European Union until legitimately elected council leadership in Osun are allowed to function through immediate release of Osun local government allocations.

NEWS RELEASE

Osun Travel Cost: There is no Smoking Gun —Spokesperson

OSOGBO - 04/08/2025 - Osunstate.gov.ng

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke remains committed to transparency and accountability in managing state finance as travelling costs being pushed around represent the near full year training allocation for the over 100 agencies of the state government.

The public is also invited to note that a full breakdown of the state travelling cost showed that the amount connected directly to the Governor is very negligible as he mostly footed his expenses through the family private jet as in the case of his current visit to the United States.

Spokesperson to the Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed clarified that many agencies undertook their local and international training in the first half of the year because of anticipated kick off of pre-2026 political activities in the latter part of the year, adding that the opposition’s sponsored reports about international traveling and training expenditures are not only misleading but also mischievous.

“The sponsored publication is a failed attempt by the opposition to misrepresent and mischaracterise much needed expenditure on local and international training programmes for public servants, service wide facility maintenance cost and several critical overhead expenses across over 100 government agencies. The fact that the state government actually posted those details on her website confirms that there is no foul play or misapplication of state funds, he clarified.

Mr. Olawale disclosed further that the amount quoted for international travels and trainings for the first two quarters of 2025 is the expenditure of the entire officials of the state government including, commissioners, agency heads, management staff of state owned tertiary institutions, Permanent Secretaries, Directors of over 100 parastatals which covers their transportation, accommodation, feeding etc.

“The Governor is only the head of the government; there are several other sectorial heads and career officers whose expenditures on travels and training make up the state government expenditure. So it is incorrect to say Governor Adeleke spent so much on traveling. Also, one has to probe the importance of these travels and training and the value it brings to the state now and in the near future” Mr Olawale said.

He highlighted key international events attended by officials of the Osun State Government in the first half of year 2025 like Commonwealth Business Investment Conference where Governor Adeleke led his team to meet potential partners in the creative sector and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ESG Management Services UK Ltd., a UK investment facilitation firm to source and facilitate investment opportunities from UK-based companies in the sectors of agriculture, manufacturing, solid minerals, and other strategic areas.

Other key sectorial trips include the Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security; Ministry of Science, Innovation and Digital Economy; Climate Change and Renewable Energy; Ministry of Water Resources; Office of Mining and Natural Resources, State owned institutions among others.

The Spokesperson further adds that “as a Governor committed to public service reforms to meet global standards, some Permanent Secretaries and top officials of the state have undergone several international training and engagements to improve their skills and enhance their productivity”.

More importantly, Mr. Olawale argued that the current high exchange rate of the Naira has largely impacted the amount quoted as these trainings and travelings are mainly funded by the Naira, thereby significantly increasing the total cost despite marked reduction in number of delegates and frequency of traveling when compared to past administration in the states

“The value of Naira is why the figure seems outrageous. We have compared notes with the records of the past administration and I can confirm that this administration is well positioned in terms of prudence and management of state resources. To get $1000 today, you will need about #1.6 Million, unlike some years ago when you only need about #400,000. One has to be objective when it comes to discussions like this so as not to be misled by the mischievous propaganda of opposition parties” he added.

On Cleaning & Fumigation Services, and refreshments, Mr. Rasheed said “the expenditure represents the amount spent by the state to maintain a clean environment across the state secretariat, agency offices, the government house, several state institutions, several health facilities, several state agencies and parastatals, public schools etc.

While reassuring the public of the Governor’s passion for transparency, the Spokesperson said it was the state government that posted the widely quoted figures as a mark of accountability and transparency.

“There are no smoking guns. We urge those interested in full breakdown of the state expenditure to apply for requisite information under the federal Freedom of Information Act”, Mr Olawale concluded.

LG ALLOCATION: FG OR APC? WHO IS OPPRESSING OSUN PEOPLE AND GOVERNOR ADELEKE

….Federal Government’s Continuous Withholding of Osun LG Allocation Is a Direct Attack on Governance and the People

The continued withholding of local government allocations due to Osun State is a dangerous and unjustified act that not only undermines the principle of federalism but also portrays the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party indifferent to the suffering of Nigerians.

This action is clearly designed to frustrate the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke and stifle grassroots development under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government. The situation is alarmingly reminiscent of the APC’s notorious era of half salary payments in Osun State — an era the people vowed never to return to.

The denial of local government funds has far-reaching consequences. It affects the payment of retired teachers, obligations to traditional institutions, and basic local governance responsibilities that directly impact the lives of citizens. The federal government’s failure to consider these critical needs is both disappointing and unacceptable.

Why Osun? Why now?

Governor Ademola Adeleke has remained steadfast and resilient in the face of these obstacles. His administration has shown a rare commitment to people-focused governance, and his popularity continues to grow because of his transparency, compassion, and performance.

We must be clear: this is not just an attack on the Adeleke administration — it is an attack on the people of Osun State. The APC has once again proven itself to be the architect of economic hardship, suppressing the rights and welfare of Nigerians to settle political scores.

The federal government must immediately release the withheld funds. Osun State will not be bullied or deprived of its legitimate earnings. The people stand with Governor Adeleke, and when the time comes, they will reaffirm their mandate and support for a leader who puts them first.

The Childishness of Hon. Oluwole Oke: A Stark Reflection of His Rejection by the People of Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency

In the unforgiving arena of politics, maturity and decorum are not optional; they are essential for credible leadership. Robert Frost's metaphor in "The Road Not Taken" underscores the significance of choices and their lasting impact on our lives. At a crossroads, one must navigate wisely, as each path diverges into distinctly different futures.

Hon. Oluwole Oke's recent behaviour is not merely immature; it starkly reveals a deep-seated frustration rooted in his rejection by the constituents he claims to represent.

At 58 years old, this lawmaker has made the bewildering decision to abandon the very party that propelled him to prominence, opting instead for an unpopular alternative that reflects his profound disconnect from the aspirations of his constituents. After twenty-two long years in the National Assembly, he has yet to deliver the tangible impact expected from such an extended tenure.

While Hon. Oke has recently attempted to present himself as an advocate for his constituents, this newfound zeal is overshadowed by an alarming regression into immaturity.

His proclivity for personal attacks and unprofessional conduct raises serious questions about his capacity for constructive dialogue. When faced with dissent, he resorts to blocking constituents or attempting to silence them rather than engaging in meaningful discourse, a tactic unbecoming of a public servant.

Moreover, Oke's childishness poses a significant threat to the credibility of his new political party. His evident prioritisation of personal grievances over collaborative governance undermines the very foundation of democracy, which hinges on the accountability of elected officials.

His tenure has been marred by unfulfilled promises and a glaring disconnection from community needs, illustrated by the absence of any notable political allies willing to accompany him on this misguided journey.

It is particularly disheartening that, despite his alleged access to substantial resources, both legal and illegal, Hon. Oke has failed to command respect or authority within his constituency. He has struggled to engage with successful young constituents like Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi and Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi in constructive debate, further underscoring his inability to connect with the community he purports to serve.

For over a decade, Oke has faced serious allegations of corruption that have cast a long shadow over his career. Colleagues have accused him of extorting money from government officials under the guise of investigations for which he possesses no legitimate mandate.

Recent reports also link him to corruption involving his school and a bureau de change, further tarnishing his already beleaguered reputation.

Despite these grave allegations, the people of his federal constituency are left searching for any significant contributions he has made to their development.

Hon. Oke's rejection should serve as a resounding reminder that performance matters in a democratic society.

Moving forward, it is imperative for him to temper his passion with the maturity and professionalism expected of a leader. Embracing childishness should not be the legacy he aspires to leave behind.

*STATES FISCAL TRANSPARENCY LEAGUE TABLE: OSUN EMERGES JOINT 5TH In Q1 2025*

Osun State has emerged joint 5th in the ranking of states in Fiscal Transparency between January and March 2025 alongside Adamawa, Cross River, Edo and Taraba states.

The ranking, done by BudgIT, a non governmental transparency and accountability advocacy group, focused on key issues like Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF –12 points), Proposed Budget (13 points), Approved Budget (21 points), Citizens Budget (15 points), Quarterly Budget Implementation Reports (BIR–16 points), eProcurement Portal (11 points) and State website with fiscal data repository (12 points), making a total of 100 points.

Osun state secured the joint 5th position in the Q1 2025 State Fiscal Transparency League Table with 92 points, driven by its strong performance in key fiscal areas. The state achieved full scores in the MTEF, proposed and approved budgets, and maintained a comprehensive fiscal data repository on its official website. It also published all quarterly budget implementation reports.

The state lost points on citizens budget due to the absence of local language adaptation, limiting accessibility while the state is encouraged to upgrade its e–procurement portal.

: NETIZENS COMMEND GOVERNOR ADELEKE FOR DISMISSING APC RUMOUR

The Governor Ademola Adeleke’s clarity on the defection rumour to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been met with widespread celebration, as supporters reaffirmed their trust in his leadership and performance, emphasizing that he remains a symbol of hope and progress in the state.

In response, citizens flooded social media with heartfelt messages of gratitude and renewed support, affirming that Adeleke’s performance in office has far exceeded expectations and should not be compromised by any association with what many called "a failed political path."

One user wrote, “Thanks GOD U COME OUT TO DEBUNKS IT, I NEARLY COLLAPSED. LOVED U FROM AFAR EVEN IF U HAV TO DECAMP JOIN ADC UR EXCELLENCY SIR.”

Another added, “God bless you, sir, God forbid APC. on your mandate, we stand forever.”

Many commended the governor for restoring hope, paying pensions, investing in infrastructure, and promoting transparency in governance. Others voiced strong rejection of APC as a political destination, calling it a betrayal of the people’s trust.

“As you continue to retain the pension and gratuities of the retired government workers, we will take that to the poll next year during the election. We won't forget,” one citizen noted.

The online community captured public sentiment with messages like:

“Now am happy 😆. Imole till 2030!”

“Very good of you, sir... please don't join where belle-face politicians are.”

“Ride on to second term in grand style, Imole.”

“Even ADC is far better than that evil party called APC.”

“MORE GREASE TO YOUR ELBOW DEMOOO! MAY APC NEVER HAPPEN TO US IN OSUN STATE.”

Governor Adeleke's leadership has brought notable achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, workers’ welfare, and transparency, earning him the admiration of both young and old across the state. His bold rejection of the APC defection narrative has not only strengthened his bond with the electorate but also reinforced his image as a committed and people-first leader.

Citizens echoed the symbolic message that Osun must not "return to Egypt" a reference to the political era they say was defined by hardship, unfulfilled promises, and disconnect from the people

As Osun prepares for its next political season, the message from the masses remains resolute: "We dey with you today, tomorrow, and forever.”
