I am so fortunate to participate at the 2024 National Association of School 📚✏️Psychologists 🤓Conference as a PREPaRE and QPR Master Trainer. Amazing souls supporting our youth to thrive 🥰 I’m stoked to bring great resources and programs back to New Mexico. Unfortunately there were no therapy dogs 😫🐾
It’s no secret New Mexico, as well as the country is underserved in mental health. 💚It was really brought home when planning for the conference I noticed a significant number of school districts, Rio Rancho, Los Angeles, Alaska, Atlanta, Denver and many more. 🌎
The school districts were there to recruit school psychologists and they are desperate. 💔It is significant for us to understand how limited school resources are even with school based health centers. We know very few districts have disposable money, yet the need is significant enough to absorb this as a nessasary expense. It is also significant to note in the U.S. 80% of youth recieving mental health support do so through school. 🚌
Mental Health wages and research are decades behind what we need now. 😳 Legislation matters, funding matters, KINDNESS matters! Supporting our youth and adults brain health matters. Listening 👂to the voices 📣of our youth matters!
Every community must be aware of local, state and national resources. And of course 988! In New Mexico I am pushing for a multi generational approach to su***de prevention, particularly in our rural areas. Culture is significant in mental health and needs to be considered. There is no one cause for mental health disparities, nor will there be one size fits all solution in any state.
I believe it is peer support, stigma reduction and raised awareness that will move the needle. AND brain 🧠scans including promoting brain health from the womb. 👶
Thank You 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼to the people doing the work, the educators, 📚community members ❤️and families, 💚 it’s crucial to a thriving future, don’t stop!
Be good to yourselves and each other! 🫶🏼
