I haven't had much of a chance to post about Black Cricket lately. It seems the creative team, including myself, have been focused on other more pressing business. But the project is coming along nicely! I just got some new inked pages in and had to share some of the awesomeness here (pencils are by Scott Sackett and the inks are by Jeff Austin).

I'm excited about this chapter as our hero meets his first, honest to gosh arch villain, Phase. I promised Scott that there is going to be some major fight scenes coming up. I like to think the first few chapters have started to lay the foundation for this character and his world. Several plot points have been set into motion and the universe building has started in earnest. Now it's time for the part where two guys in colorful costumes start kicking the crap out of each other and punches get thrown. 🙂

Just a reminder, a story by our studio, "The Prey," is in Planet Comics #34 from Antarctic Comics and it is supposed to be coming out tomorrow. The story features artwork by Joey Martinez with greytones by Scott Sackett and lettering by Andy Shaggy Korty. From what I have gathered, this is the final issue of this anthology.

Planet Comics #34's release was announced just before everything went down with Diamond Distribution. Since things are wonky as heck with Diamond these days, I don't know what will happen with this book. If you know of a shop that ordered it, please thank them for me. If you need to get a copy, I am checking with Antarctic Press to see if they will have them in stock. Right now, only mycomicshop.com seems to have a listing for it and hopefully it will be available to order beginning tomorrow.

If you are able to find a copy of the book out in the wild at your local comic book shop, drop us a line and let us know. And if you happen to pick it up, we hope you like our story.

Due to the shake up with Diamond having to declare bankruptcy, Antarctic Press has to cease publishing creator owned IPs. While this impacts plans our studio has for some ideas in the works, it also affects other indie creators who now find themselves without a home, including the Nyobi Outbreak series.

We would like to encourage all of you to checkout this book's Kickstarter as they work to complete their current story arc. And also, be on the lookout for other indie creators who will have to shift their focus to Kickstarter projects to get their stories out to the public.

Antarctic Press led the way in giving an outlet to indie creators. In these uncertain times, it is up to indie creators to band together and help one another out in that spirit.

I have been waiting to officially announce this, but now that the latest Previews is out, and comic book shops can start placing orders, I can finally share some great news! Kowai Hora Comics Studio has a new story in Antarctic Press' Planet Comics #34, which will be on sale April 30, 2025!

The story is called "The Prey," with the script by me, artwork by Joey Martinez, greytones by Scott Sackett and lettering by Andy Shaggy Korty. This is a story about two youngsters who cross paths with a beautiful woman from the stars. They also encounter the alien who is determined to hunt her down. This is one I hope readers will like. I'll be honest, when I saw the alien designs by Joey, they gave me Kirby-vibes.

We're just one of three stories in this issue, and at $4.99, I can promise you will get your money's worth in action, thrills and good reading. As always, if you are the owner of a local comic book shop, please consider picking up an issue or two for your store. And if you like good science fiction, stop by your local comic book shop and ask them to pick this one up. I think you all will like what you see.

As 2024 rapidly comes to a close, everyone here at Kowai Hora Comics Studio has been hard at work on various projects. I would love to share some artwork for them, but we're playing our cards close to our vests for the time being. But soon...very soon...we're hoping for some big announcements.

One thing I can share is a page from Chapter Four of Black Cricket. This features pencils by Scott Sackett and inks by Jeff Austin. I figure this is safe to share here as it doesn't give away the story too much, but it does show off how dynamic the artwork for this series is thanks to Scott and Jeff.

Getting the chance to launch Black Cricket this year has been a true blessing. It is exciting to be work with Scott, Jeff and Kevin Scott Halter on this character whose adventures I have been running in my head for years. To see his story unfolding on paper at last is an excitement I can't put into words. The same goes for working with super talented artists that are not just my partners, but my friends too.

Anyway, stay tuned to our page for updates on our 2025 projects. Trust me, we have some truly groovy stuff in the works. And thank you all for your continued support.

Happy birthday to Jack Kirby. Were he still with us, The King would be 107 today. Without a doubt, Kirby was the most creative talents to work in comics. He was an innovator, a visionary and a genius. Without him, there would be no Marvel Comics, and the DC Universe would not be nearly as exciting.
