A moment in my Melanin History...
This is my maternal grandmother, Florida Smith, so proud to meet Jesse Jackson. My grandmother lived in the projects, 2 blocks away from Malcolm X's house off Spencer on the North side of Omaha, NE!
My grandmother picked cotton with my Uncle James for a living. Imagine the Joy she felt meeting her favorite Civil Rights activist face to face. Both sides of my family taught me to value the Journey of Our Ancestors that survived slavery and indentured servitude. This is why I go so hard with my goals and uplifting Our Melanin people. My direct Ancestors paved the way for me, endured what I couldn't even imagine, and yet we're resilient. My grandmother looked up to Jesse Jackson the same way she did Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. She was always telling us about Our Freedom. Grandma Smith I honor you today, and in every dream and goal I accomplish. Thank you for paving the way for your youngest granddaughter. Love you always. 💜💜💜😘💋
