GOV ENO COMMISSIONS MODEL SCHOOL IN ETINAN, RESTATES COMMITMENT TO QUALITY EDUCATION

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering quality education across Akwa Ibom State, stating that foundational learning remains a critical pillar of the ARISE Agenda.

He made the declaration on Thursday, during the official commissioning of the newly constructed ARISE Model Primary School, Ikot Isong, in Etinan Local Government Area.

Represented by his Political Adviser, Dr. Godwin Ntukudeh, the Governor stated that the ultra-modern school represents a significant stride toward improving the standard of basic education in rural communities, charging the teachers to produce world-class students from the school.

noting that the facility is a symbol of hope and a vital investment in the future of children in the area.

According to Governor Eno, “By now, I believe that it is clear to everyone that we have brought light to rural communities to discourage rural-urban migration. Today we have ensured the transformation of primary schools to model centres of learning centres to provide quality education to our children, this is our commitment.”

“Today, under this administration you can see, feel and touch qualitative education. We will continue to execute the full content of the ARISE agenda with your support. Not only have we built model schools and health centres, we are constructing road and here in Etinan, the Ibom Paint is back and here to stay”.

“You can hear from the commissioner for Education, the quality of the facilities in this school. I appeal to the teachers to be dedicated teaching, to concentrate and deliver world-class products out of the students. I therefore enjoin to the Chairman to collaborate with the Ministry of Internal Security to ensure that all the facilities here are secured”, he added.

Earlier his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, Hon. Uko Umoh, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for the numerous impactful projects executed in the area, particularly commending the quality and standard of the newly constructed Model Primary School and reaffirmed the unwavering support of Etinan people.

He described the Model Primary School as a shining example of the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and announced the donation of 20,000 branded exercise books and school uniforms to pupils, as a contribution towards boosting educational standards in the local government.

Providing an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Umoh, highlighted that the model school is equipped with a range of modern facilities, including an ICT laboratory, fully furnished classrooms, solar-powered electricity, a well-equipped sick bay, an assembly hall, a standard library, and residential quarters for staff.

He further noted that the school also features Early Child Care Development Classes (ECCDC), a playground, and a security post designed to monitor and regulate the movement of pupils in and out of the school premises.

In his goodwill message, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Akwa Ibom State, Uko Umoh, SAN, expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for enhancing the learning environment for children. He described the Model School as a valuable asset that not only promotes education but also holds potential as a destination for educational tourism.

On his part, the Member representing Etinan State Constituency, Hon. Uduak Ekpoufot, applauded the Governor’s bold commitment to primary education. He remarked that the ARISE Model School in Ikot Isong will significantly impact and transform the lives of the pupils who benefit from its facilities.

Similarly, the Chapter Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Israel Tommy; the Dean of the College of Honorary Special Advisers to the Governor, Isantim Kenneth Okon; and Otuekong Sunny Jackson all commended Governor Umo Eno for bringing the dividends of democracy to Etinan.

They praised his inclusive leadership and developmental strides, particularly in the education sector.

Akwa Ibom Government Dismisses 76 Oil Wells Scare

The Akwa Ibom State Government has dismissed the renewed controversies surrounding its ownership of 76 offshore oil wells, maintaining that the Supreme Court decision on the issue is final.

The Apex Court in July 2012 had placed a seal on Akwa Ibom’s ownership of the oil wells, dismissing claims to it by the Cross River State Government.

But recent reports attributed to the government of Cross River State, suggested that the issue of ownership of the wells would be up for review and that a political settlement was in the offing.

But in a swift reaction; the Government of Akwa Ibom State is firm that a decision made by the apex court of the land is judgement in rem and cannot neither be appealed nor deliberated further.

Addressing the issue on ARISE NEWS TV, Sunday morning, the State Commissioner for Information, Elder Aniekan Umanah, urged the public to disregard any circulating claims or rumours, emphasizing that the July 2012 ruling of the Supreme Court remains final and binding.

"This is a settled matter. The Supreme Court, in July 2012, ruled on this matter and placed a permanent seal on this conversation.

“That is the highest court of the land. Once the Supreme Court gives a ruling, it is final. This is not a matter we should even talk about.

“This is a matter that Akwa Ibom State did not even take to court. I mean it is sealed”, he argued.

The Commissioner also took the opportunity to spotlight the progress being recorded under Governor Umo Eno’s administration, noting that the ARISE Agenda continues to deliver visible results across various sectors of the state.

He highlighted achievements in education, agriculture, rural development, youth empowerment, security, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and road infrastructure, noting that the ARISE Agenda is not just a policy; but a real experience for Akwa Ibom people, as its impacts are being felt across the nook cranies of the State.

He gave further insight on the tourism sector where Governor Eno is turning a ravine ravaged community into a one-stop tourism and hospitality resort, the ARISE PARK in Uyo, the Marine Resort In Oron, the 5000 Seats International Convention Center and Ibom Tropicana Hotel project among indicators of the plans to make the State a tourism hub, and also harped on the initiatives to sustain the peace enjoyed in the State.

On the recent visit by Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and two other Senators from the State to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commissioner Umanah described the visit as a strategic move to strengthen ties with the Federal Government for the accelerated development of the state.

He mentioned that discussions during the visit focused on securing federal support for critical infrastructure projects in Akwa Ibom, including the Ibom Deep Seaport and other priority initiatives.

It would be recalled that following discontent over the political solution on the oil wells by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo Administration, the Cross Rivers state government under Liyel Imoke had dragged the Federal Government and the Akwa Ibom state government to court on grounds that some of the oil wells ceded to her by virtue of the agreement reached at a meeting called by the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, in 2006, were not released.

Cross River lost her status as a littoral state after the Federal Government ceded the oil-rich Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon in 2008.

The seven justices of the court headed by the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Dahiru Musdapher, in their ruling, submitted that the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) was right in attributing the oil wells to Akwa Ibom at the inter-agencies meeting.

Before delivering the lead judgment, the court dismissed Cross River’s application, pointing out that the agreement which initially gave the state rights to the 76 oil wells was frustrated by the handing over of Bakassi to Cameroon.

Mrs Adekeye held that the 13 per cent derivation revenue on the 76 oil wells between Akwa Ibom state and Cross River State must continue to be attributed to the state that has the maritime territory.

“Cross River State no longer has any maritime boundary,” she said.

“It is landlocked. The plaintiff not being a littoral state and not having a maritime boundary, the 76 oil wells, which are the subject matter of the suit, which lie offshore and within a maritime territory, cannot be attributed to it.

“The plaintiff has no maritime territory since the cessation of Bakassi Peninsula, and the Cross River estuary, which used to be part of the state prior to August 2008. The present position of the plaintiff cannot be blamed on any government agency, particularly the National Boundary Commission and the RMAFC. The two statutory bodies must perform their statutory duties based on facts and realities to compile the indices for the payment of the derivation revenues to entitled states,” she said.

♦️MATTERS ARISING

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State had on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, met with the Stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State. The meeting was well attended with the Party Stakeholders drawn from the 31 Local Government Areas. According to the Governor, that was the first meeting he had with the Stakeholders of the Party since he moved to the All Progressive Congress. One could imagine the excitement on the faces of the Stakeholders, who had long anticipated to meet with the Governor.

It was an opportunity for the Governor to inform the Stakeholders of his plans for the Party, urging them to embrace the new members coming into the Party with open arms. The Governor further reminded that Party faithfuls of the new slogan for the Party, as proposed by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, which is AP&C, 'Akwa Ibom United. Indeed, united we stand, divided, we fall. There is need for unity at all levels of the Party structure so we can secure election victory with ease come 2027. The Governor also reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON. Stating that he never hide his admiration for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

On Friday, July 18, 2025, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State led high powered delegation to visit the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the visit was unconnected with the passing of the immediate past President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in a London Hospital on July 13, 2025 and was buried on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The sad passing of the former President, according to Analysts, dealt a big blow on the political calculation of Northern Nigeria, and Nigeria as a whole. The Governor may have ceased the opportunity to also remind the President of some areas that demand urgent intervention of the Federal Government in furthering the developmental strides of Akwa Ibom State.

♦️ON THE COMMISSIONING OF 10.412KM UYO-UKPOM ABAK ROAD

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, commissioned the 10.412km Uyo - Ukpom Abak Road as part of his administration's unrelenting effort to link the state's rural communities to its major urban centre, Uyo.

Inaugurating the road project, Governor Eno noted that the construction of the road was in fulfillment of his campaign promise to complete uncompleted projects by his predecessors.

"This project was initiated by the administration of my political father, Governor Udom Emmanuel, and we had promised to complete it. Today, we are here in fulfillment of that promise because governance is a continuum."

Governor Eno commended the management of Amitec Construction Company, and the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, for taking up the challenge to restore the road to a desirable standard.

"It is our promise that we will keep connecting our rural communities to the centre, just as we keep connecting the centre of our State to the centre in Abuja.

"This road project would not have been possible without the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who made sure that funds are released to our State for completion of projects," he stated.

Pastor Eno reaffirmed the State's full support to the administration of President Tinubu towards ensuring that the President will be voted back to power in 2027 for his second term.

"We will make sure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is returned to office in 2027 to continue with his good works. The same support and full votes will equally be given to our son, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for his second term, likewise myself, in order to continue with our development strides of building a peaceful and united Akwa Ibom for the good of our people," he said.

The Governor announced plans by his administration to flag off the construction of Youth-Friendly Centres in all the 31 Local Government Areas of the State, explaining that the project would galvanize young people in the hinterland and develop their skills for better productivity and profitable living.

"Each Local Government Chairman will give us a space within their Local Governments so that we can build Youth-Friendly Centres for our young people to develop, upgrade, and promote their creative skills and make the best out of their lives.

He therefore charged youths to rise to the occasion and get ready for the planned project that will be launched soonest to build and empower them for meaningful living and responsible impact on the society.

The Governor appreciated Amitec Construction Company for donating six water borehole facilities for communities within Uyo and Abak axis where the new road spans as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities.

Pastor Eno equally commended a virtually impaired law graduate, Barr. Udeme Emmanuel Ekanem, who graduated recently from the Nigeria Law School through his sponsorship for his doggedness and directed the State Head of Service, Elder Effiong Essien and the Commissioner for Justice, Barr Uko Essien Udom, SAN, to ensure his immediate employment into the State Civil Service with appropriate posting and mobilization for work.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, accompanied by his Abak counterpart, Pastor (Mrs) Ime Effiong Charles, thanked the Governor for fulfilling his campaign promise to the people.

He explained that the road project had been left in a deplorable state for a long time, leading to several protests, especially because the road served as a major diversion route during the construction of the Abak Road Flyover.

He thanked the Governor for redeeming the image of stakeholders who assured the people of Government's commitment to completing the project, saying that it was an evidence of democracy in action with continuity in governance.

Presenting an overview of the project, Prof. Ibanga thanked Governor Eno for deploying his finisher's anointing to complete the project which he inherited from the immediate past administration by providing over 80% funding for its completion.

Analysing the project, the Commissioner said out of 10.412 kilometers, 4.4 kilometers is a total reconstruction while the rest were overlaid, and appreciated the Governor for remaining committed to his promise to the people and for his passion towards the completion of inherited projects across the State.

Speaking on behalf of Uyo Local Government Area stakeholders, the member representing the State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Uwemedimo Udo, said the Governor has wiped away the tears of his people, and assured of continuous support for the administration.

Speaking on behalf of stakeholders of Abak Local Government Area, the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for putting smiles on the faces of the people and for making Abak people proud through numerous life- enhancing projects executed by the government in the area.

He described the road as a great relief to Abak and Uyo people as its timely completion will revive economic activities of the area, and pledged that the people of Abak would reciprocate this kind gesture by supporting the Governor beyond 2027.

On his part, the member representing Abak Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Clement Jimbo, lauded the Governor for his foresight and vision, especially for ensuring a calm political temperature, and for completing the road project which,he said, will greatly benefit his people and the State at large.

The event was graced by members of the State Executive Council, members of the political class, captains of industry, the clergy, traditional rulers, and the general public.

♦️This is where I draw the curtain on this week's edition of 'You and Your Governor ', till I bring you more exciting news of the Governor's activities by next week.

ARISE AGENDA: RIDING ON THE WAVES OF UNPRECEDENTED UNITY

By: Solomon Essiet

🔥Just like our State's Anthem that reads, "Akwa Ibom, rise to the faith of greatness", we are rising geometrically at the moment with an untold unity of purpose, for the common good of our State. Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, is at the driver's seat, a man, generally referred to as a unifier and recently, as a solvent, by no other person, but Obong Donald Etiebet, who himself has seen it all in the political realm of Akwa Ibom State, as an Elder Statesman in his own right.

🔥Funniest thing is, while many prayed that the Governor fails in his spirited move from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressive Congress, APC, it's now seems like their prayers is now working in favour of the movement, probably, due to the good intentions of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, who from unset, publicly stated that the movement from the PDP to APC is occasioned by enlightened State interest.

🔥It is high time we stopped deceiving ourselves. Both the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressive Congress, APC, are first of all, political parties, and the membership of these political parties is highly traceable. It takes politicians to join and own a new political party. A case study of the supposed new political party in town, even though details is scarcely available whether they can succeed as a political party, given the level of disagreement trailing the progenitors as a result of power sharing formular. But, at the end of the day, you discovered that the members of some of the political parties are still the same people that we know.

🔥This is why we must appreciate the wisdom of Governor Umo Eno, who recently reminded us of scriptures as stated in the book of 1Corinthian 3:4, which stated that, 'paraphrased, Paul planted, Appollos watered, yet they have same level of reward. What wisdom is this? As the Governor read that scripture to everyone that gathered at the recently concluded stakeholders meeting, I couldn't help, but nodded in agreement, like the much mentioned Agama lizard.

🔥Just like the name of a Church cannot take anybody to heaven, even if the Church is named "Heaven Finally", you still have to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Serve God in spirit and in truth and trust God to make it to heaven. Similarly, no political party on its own can drive the desired developmental needs of the people. It takes the people operating under the political parties to drive the necessary change, by bringing the dividends of democracy to the people.

🔥So, I laughed. Yes, I laughed crazily, when I heard people saying that Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the performing Governor of Akwa Ibom State, will start performing poorly because he is now a member of the All Progressive Congress, what a delusional frame of mind? All in the name of talking politics, some people who should know better, are now talking like those who have not been to elementary school, talk less of higher institutions. Are you now telling me that the Governor is no longer the same person he was? What has changed? His blood or face? Wonders shall never cease. Please do not allow anybody to deceive you, if it is about Governor Umo Eno, I can tell you for free that nothing has changed. The Governor joined the All Progressive Congress, APC, with that same can-do attitude that he had adopted since assumption of office, helping him to emerged as the Governor of year 2024, coming from many awarding institutions, ranging from the Leadership Newspaper, ThisDay Newspaper, Telegraph Newspaper, Premium 89.9Fm and many more.

🔥As we speak, there are over 45 new projects in the State awaiting flag-off, the Governor is operating with the same determination and desire to see Akwa Ibom State transformed beyond what an average Akwa Ibomite thinks of the State. Let me tell you that the Governor will stop at nothing, than to deliver the right dividends of democracy to Akwa Ibom people, like he has always done.

🔥So, talking about the much talked about movement, what we are finally experiencing is this unimaginable unity, blewing all through the nooks and crannies of the State. Like the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong would say, the movement has not only brought about political unity, but unity in our Churches, Businesses and Community relationship. Yes! At some point, things were so bad such that a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, for instance cannot not sit down to exchange drinks with members of the All Progressive Congress or other political parties in the State, in the name of preventing a situation of being accused of playing anti-party politics. I am sure I have witnesses in the house.

🔥So, when we sit down with all political leaders and stakeholders across the State, who have already experienced the murky waters of political alienation, and divisiveness, in one roof at a time like this, like what we witnessed during the recently concluded stakeholders meeting, one can understand how appreciative they are. Because, these set of people understood what they have lost overtime, individually, corporately and otherwise, due to political differences. It is time to give this peace a chance.

🔥Fortunately, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the Governor of Akwa IbomState is blessed with the spirit of reconciliation. He has what it takes to bring everyone together to work in oneness and unity as a people from a State loved by God, and named after God, Akwa Abasibom State.

🔥I love the level of unity and peace we are currently enjoying as a State, and I urge everyone to rise to the faith of greatness, just so that this peace can be sustained, within the leaps and bounds of our dear State.

Arise, that same God.
