In 2013, during Mass at Christ the King
Church in Vilakkannur, Kerala, India, a black
spot on the Eucharistic host miraculously
transformed into the radiant face
of Jesus Christ. The Vatican’s Dicastery
for the Doctrine of the Faith officially
recognized this profound sign on May 31, 2025,
as a call to deeper faith in His Real Presence.
Three specific scientific tests, as proposed by the
Dicastery, were performed: 1. Fourier Transform
Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis;
2. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC);
and 3. Mass Spectrometry.
The findings concluded that the same
material present in the rest of the host was
also found in the image area, with the image formed
from the host’s own material and no external
substances influencing its formation.
