Watch my interview with Baton Rouge DA Hillar Moore - he talks about his proposed tax of 24 million a year for 20 years!

25/04/2025

These are just a few of the questions I'll ask District Attorney Hillar Moore at 10am, right here on FB Live.
1. If the tax were to pass, Will the DA’s office still *also* get funding from the general budget from city-parish?
Is the c-p legally obligated to give funds to his office? Esp if he’s getting his own dedicated tax? OR will this dedicated tax actually end up replacing what the c-p will give his office—therefore raising taxes but not actually increasing the funds to his office?
2. Asking for 3x the current monies allocated is outrageous. Besides immediate pay and staff increases what is his plan for the rest of our tax dollars?
3. What percentage of these funds will be allocated to the public defender’s office? That office needs funding for staff and case prep as well. And why should we pass a 20 year tax to the DA’s office when the other dedicated taxes are 10 years
4. Why is he proposing to return $8 million to the general fund? If the $8 million isn’t needed for the improvements he’s supposedly going to make, why not reduce the requested assessment or commit to return any excess to the taxpayers via a credit the following year. It seems ingenuine to ask for more tax dollars for one purpose and then give a portion of it to the general fund.
I was initially in support of the amendment but this changed my opinion.
Early Vote today and tomorrow! If you don't vote early, the election is May 3rd!
