Saint Helena: The Hidden Gem of The Atlantic
PG-13 | 10 MINS | TRAVEL | 2025
Saint Helena is seriously one of the most unique places I’ve ever been. Volcanic cliffs, lush winding trails, and views that honestly make you forget you’re in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The island is so remote but somehow feels full of life.
Along with my brother Ivan, and our friend Brodie, we make a quick getaway up into the mountains of Saint Helena for a camping trip. In may opinion the highlight of our stay in Saint Helena. The location was remarkable. Soft green grass, rolling hills, friendly cows all around us, and the most breathtaking sunsets I have ever seen.
Later I visit Napoleon’s grave, which is tucked away in a quiet little valley surrounded by trees. It feels surreal standing in the same place where such a massive figure in history spent his final years. Not long after, I get to meet Jonathan, the oldest living land animal on earth. He is a giant tortoise believed to be over 190 years old and still going strong.
Before we leave to embark on our next Atlantic passage, I attempt to beat the Jacob’s Ladder world record. It’s a 699-step staircase that connects the upper and lower parts of Jamestown. The steps are steep, the view from the top is insane, and by the end my legs were burning — but it was totally worth it.
