Hoping this group can help me. Brett Gelman’s Stranger Things investigative reporter from Chicago, Murray Bauman, has always made me
think the Duffers had to have had intentionally written him as a tribute to Kolchak. I’ve tried many times to ask them via X and Instagram but have never gotten a reply. Yesterday, I asked Google AI if it knew of the connection. It did indeed say sources have reported the Duffers have told people this is the case. But as most AI goes, it doesn’t share how it got this info.

Is there anyone in the group who knows of a credible source of this information? I’m writing/recording a blog, a YouTube, and feedback segment for a Stranger Things podcast where I will point out what appear to be the strongest links: Murray, The Dig Dugg/ Energy Eater connection, and And the They Are they have been… episode connection to Plot twist about True North.

We are just 10 days away from the anniversary of Cheryl Ann Hughes’ untimely death on the Vegas strip on April 25, 1972. The first victim of a vampire terrorizing the town.

In honor of that upcoming date, I have a little quiz for Kolchak fans of the TV movie written by legendary writer, Richard Matheson, based on the original novel by Jeff Rice.

Rice, for whatever reason, has three of the men attending Chief Butcher’s small press briefing each have a last name that rhymes: Paine, Fain, and Lane. Matheson changed one of the names. I guess because of too much rhyming.

What is the full name of the character Matheson changed the name of? Hint, he appears in more than just one scene in the movie.
