🩸 Could CAR-T therapy help reset the immune system in refractory ITP?

Early phase 1 data presented at EHA 2026 suggest BCMA-directed CAR-T therapy could offer a new approach for patients with heavily pretreated, refractory primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).

Among four evaluable patients:

🔹 3 achieved complete response within 14 days
🔹 Drug-free remissions lasted 6–14 months
🔹 One patient achieved a delayed response before relapsing
🔹 No severe immune effector cell-associated toxicities were reported

Beyond platelet recovery, translational analyses suggested broader immune reprogramming, including changes in B cells, plasma cells and T-cell compartments.
