Happy birthday to one of my favourite dance partners! 🎉
Dancing used to be my happy place. Sadly, that changed over the years thanks to dance scene politics, people having different agendas, creepy guys, and dancers who focused more on themselves than the connection with their partner/others around them etc.
So imagine my delight meeting Shey - a fellow dance lover who also valued connection and fun!
I was always a little wary of kizomba. It just never really clicked for me. And I was too ‘scared/in my head’ to enjoy it properly, so I often avoided it.
I think my first dance with Shey was a Kizomba song. And even though I hardly knew him or what I was doing, it didn’t matter. The connection was there, and it was fun!
I’m always hesitant to post dance videos as I spot SO many flaws and can just imagine all the criticism from others 🥲
But.
This is one of our last dances together, and I actually love this video - multiple flaws and all - because even though I still have no idea what I’m doing half the time 😅 (and I was extra awkward because it was being recorded!), I think it really captures how fun dancing with Shey was ☺️
And that’s all thanks to Shey being a leader who is so chill and brings a playful vibe to dance, protects his followers and values follower safety over fancy moves, doesn’t care when I/we stuff up, is constantly cracking jokes which make me laugh and relax, and radiates pure joy and happiness when he is on the dancefloor.
His positive energy is contagious, reminds me why I loved dancing so much, and helps bring me back to my happy place 🥹
I truly believe that the way we dance reflects our personality.
So I am really grateful that you bring your weird and wonderful self to the dancefloor!
