Gloriosa superba, commonly known as the flame lily, is a striking climbing plant native to tropical regions of Africa and Asia, including Sri Lanka. It features vibrant, red and yellow, flame-like flowers that bloom during the summer months. The plant thrives in well-drained soil and can grow up to 4 meters tall, making it suitable for both sun and shade. However, it’s important to note that all parts of Gloriosa superba are highly toxic if ingested, containing colchicine, a potent alkaloid. Despite its beauty, caution is advised when handling or planting this species.
