My name is Chisom KC, and I've been living in the Tourist Beach Community for five years now.

I rented a one-bedroom apartment from the government and invested in a space where I built a shop that I manage with my children.

Last December, some government officials came by, informing us that the Rivers State government wanted to develop the community and promised to compensate us.

March 5th, 2025, the government returned, collected our details and gave us seven days, notice to vacate our homes. On the 7th of March I received a meager ₦140,000 as compensation.

March 8th, 2025, my apartment was demolished, I lost all my properties, my children are no longer going to school, we sleep outside under the rain and sunny.

As a woman with three children, I'm left wondering how I'll manage with such a small amount of money. My family and I are frustrated. We need help.

Today, the Rivers State judiciary delivered a fair judgment in favor of the Diobu communities, that had been displaced from their homes and rendered homeless since 2002

After the eviction, Justice and Empowerment Initiatives (JEI), Social Action and the community leaders, took the Rivers State government to court. And by the grace of God, they received a fair judgment from the Rivers State judiciary, requiring compensation for the lost property of the Diobu communities.

I have been in this trade for years, taking pride in crafting shoes that are both durable and comfortable. However, the current economic situation has made it challenging for me to sustain my business.

The rising costs of materials have severely affected my profit margins. Leather, threads, and other essential supplies have become expensive. I've tried to absorb the costs, but it's becoming difficult.

As a cobbler from Ovim, I'm used to working hard to provide for my family. But now, I'm struggling to make ends meet. I implore the government to consider the plight of small business owners like myself and take action to address the rising costs of goods and materials.

My name is Chimzi, and I'm a cobbler from the Ovim community.

I work at a SEAVON OIL AND GAS fuel station. When I first started working here, fuel was sold for ₦200 per liter.

The pump price of fuel changed because the naira fell against the dollar.

We buy fuel from the federal government for 800 to 900 naira per liter, and with the cost of transportation to your fuel station, if we don't sell the fuel for ₦1,250 per liter, all our efforts will be wasted.

The cost of goods has skyrocketed, making it challenging for people to afford basic necessities.

For example, a basket of tomatoes that used to cost ₦5,000 now sold for ₦30,000.

I'm struggling to sell my tomatoes because of the high price, and they spoil, leading to losses instead of profits.

I think that transportation costs could be a major factor, as it has become more expensive to move goods from the north to the south.

Those who transport the goods often include these costs in the final price, which further drives up the cost of the products.

The government must step in and tackle this issue, as people are suffering and dying from hunger every day.

I used to buy one bag of onions for ₦70,000 to ₦75,000, but now it costs ₦120,000.

When onions were reasonably priced, customers would buy from me, and I would see them again within two to three days.

But now it takes a much longer time for them to return and buy again, and they're even crying because of the high cost.

The business has slowed down significantly due to the price increase.

Before, I could sell three bags in two to three days, but now it takes a whole week to sell just one bag. I'm not making a profit like I used to, and if this continues, I may stop selling.

My name is Alhaji Adebayo, and I am a cow meat seller. I am not happy; my customers are complaining a lot.

The price of cow meat is now ₦1.2 million, whereas before we used to buy it for ₦600,000 to ₦700,000. This increase has made it difficult for many sellers to continue their business.

Even though we're still selling, our profits have become zero. We're managing the situation to avoid sitting at home.

This situation needs to be addressed before it escalates and causes a reaction from the citizens. Hunger is increasing, and food prices are rising daily.

The cost of garri has increased significantly, from ₦30,000 to ₦120,000 per bag.

The primary reason for this surge in food prices is the high cost of transportation.

The government could explore various solutions, such as improving infrastructure or providing subsidies for transportation services, to reduce the cost of goods and make them more accessible to people.

The market has witnessed a drastic surge in prices, and I firmly believe that the exponential rise in fuel costs is the primary culprit behind this phenomenon.

At Borokiri Market, where I typically procure this fish, for ₦700 to ₦800 is now sold to us for ₦1,500, inclusive of the exorbitant transportation fees. This has left us with a meager profit margin at the end of the day.

The pain I endure is not only mine but also that of my customers, who lament the fact that they once could purchase items for ₦1,000, only to find them now selling for a staggering ₦2,000..

We need government intervention to lower the high prices of fuel for transportation to reduce so that things can return to normal.

My name is *Oyeyechi Okori* from Anambra State.
