You don’t grow by trying to be perfect. Trying to be perfect stops us from trying.
You grow from experimenting, trying different things in different ways. Its ok to fail, the more you fail, the more you grow 🥰

Fear. Such an uncomfortable feeling. Today, I was riding a bike in Belgium and my front wheel slid as I tride to turn up onto the cobblestone curb. I wasn’t hurt, but it took awhile to feel comfortable and confident as I started again. I could feel my stomach muscles tighten whenever my bike wheel got too close to the curb. I was acutely aware of my fear of falling, each time I was a little too close to the edge of the cobblestones. I can’t imagine how it must feel day after day being fearful of what might happen. Have compassion, fear is exhausting!

Asking a question, puts pressure on the child. In the beginning of a relationship, use comments instead of questions. This will help build a trusting relationship.

A goal needs to be measurable example: “i will raise my hand at school once this week”

Setting smaller short term goals is not as overwhelming 🥰as one big goal

Our Story

My name is Chelsea. I was diagnosed with Selective Mutism when I was 5 years old. I still struggle with anxiety today, but I have learned to manage it. I recently earned my Masters degree in Behavior Analysis and am now a Board Certified Behavior Analyst BCBA. My mom and I started a podcast to share our personal experiences with Selective Mutism in an effort to spread awareness and support people whose lives’ are touched by Selective Mutism. Thank you so for listening! It means the world to me.
