Bronny James continues working toward his debut for USC after partaking in pregame warmups for the first time before Sunday's 81-70 win over Brown.

Today's game was the first game he got an opportunity to warm up with his team," Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James told reporters of his son. "So, he's almost there. ... He's almost there."
Bronny suffered cardiac arrest while working out on the court in July. He remains a member of the USC team, and LeBron said on Nov. 6 his son intends to suit up once he passed a physical.
Trojans head coach Andy Enfield remains unsure when the 19-year-old will be fully cleared, though.

"He went through warmups with the team," he said of James' pregame involvement. "He's a big part of our program and our team. He's a terrific teammate. We look forward to hopefully one day getting him back on the court but when that day is, that's not my decision. We're going to patient and go through the process."
James was the most closely followed star in the 2023 recruiting class thanks to a mix of his family name and his individual exploits on the court. He was the No. 22 overall player in 247Sports' composite rankings, and he has garnered some NBA draft buzz.
The hype around USC was especially strong because Enfield also signed Isaiah Collier, the top-ranked prep player in the country.
The Trojans have gotten off to a 3-1 start with Sunday's win. The rest of their nonconference slate includes a Dec. 2 matchup with No. 11 Gonzaga, and they begin Pac-12 play with a Dec. 28 road game against Oregon.

Houston Rockets wing Dillon Brooks helped to get LeBron James' competitive juices flowing as the four-time MVP led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 105-104 victory Sunday night.
Throughout the contest, Brooks and James carried on the rivalry they began building last year. LeBron received a technical foul for lightly shoving Brooks in the third quarter.

Later in the quarter, he threw out the "too small" celebration after backing down Brooks and scoring on a baby hook.

That's competition," James said of his opponent. "Those young guys, they get me going. So, I need that."
Brooks clearly struck a nerve with his trash talk toward LeBron in the middle of the 2023 NBA playoffs, and the King has a long memory.

James dropped a game-high 37 points on the Rockets along with eight assists, six rebounds and three steals. His free throw with 1.2 seconds on the clock is what sealed the victory for L.A. as well.

Brooks might be relishing his label as a "villain" of the NBA, but he might want to hop in a time machine and make it so that he never starting poking any bears.

From one point of view, the Los Angeles Lakers (3-5) are off to a perfect start to the 2023-24 season. They're perfectly good at home (3-0) and perfectly awful on the road (0-5). After its surprising run to last season's Western Conference Finals, the franchise entered the year with high expectations.
So far, they have not been met. The Lakers resemble the squad that started 2-10 much more than the one that got past the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors in the postseason.
Is it already time to panic? Should the team start eyeballing talent on other rosters for a third star? Does the team need a different set of role players?
Who might the Lakers be able to lure when trade season unofficially starts in mid-December?

Michigan doesn't believe it's an isolated case as the Wolverines continue to be embroiled in a sign-stealing scandal.
Sports Illustrated's Pat Forde and Richard Johnson reported the school "is aggressively fighting back against potential sanctions for alleged illegal signal-stealing by former football staffer Connor Stalions."
As part of its defense, Michigan intends to provide Big Ten officials with evidence showing other teams in the conference had deciphered its signals and forwarded that knowledge to opposing programs.
Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic reported Ohio State, Purdue and Rutgers were the schools accused of sharing signals.
According to Forde and Johnson, a former Big Ten coach provided Michigan with two documents that included the Wolverines' sideline signals. The coach also said he and his coaching staff had "received multiple detailed breakdowns of which signals corresponded to which play calls."

Just when it seemed like the Los Angeles Clippers' pursuit of Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden was running out of gas, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski hit us with late-night news that the 2017-18 MVP is headed there after all.

Later, we learned that Filip Petrušev and P.J. Tucker are also headed to L.A. in the deal, while the 76ers are receiving Marcus Morris Sr., Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, Kenyon Martin Jr., an unprotected first-round pick in 2028, two second-round picks and a pick swap.
Given the supposed lack of interest in Harden from other suitors around the NBA and a series of what appeared to be missteps for his trade value over the last several months, this seems like a pretty good haul for the 34-year-old playmaker.
Of course, if the Clippers can get a motivated version of the 10-time All-Star, he could prove worth it.

It's hard to decide which Saturday moment was the worst for boxing.
Was it when a left hand collided with Tyson Fury's skull and sent him sprawling to the canvas in the third round?
Perhaps the late stages of the eighth, when the WBC heavyweight champ looked so physically spent that a KO loss not only seemed possible but imminent?
Or shortly after the final bell, when the tuxedoed husk of Michael Buffer paused dramatically before pronouncing Fury had escaped with a split decision over a foe who'd never laced a pair of competitive gloves?
Regardless, one thing is certain: The optics were bad.
Really bad.
So bad in fact that the spectacle prompted the B/R combat team into an impromptu huddle to discuss the crossover-bout phenomenon and the risks involved for the established boxers involved and for their sport as a whole.

NFL Rumors: Browns 'Hopeful' Deshaun Watson Returns from Shoulder Injury in Week 9

Report:

The San Francisco 49ers announced Saturday that quarterback Brock Purdy cleared concussion protocol, meaning he will start Sunday's home game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Per Josh Dubow of the Associated Press, Purdy was placed in concussion protocol earlier this week when he reported symptoms on the flight home following the Niners' loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.
Purdy has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's game, meaning the second-year man should be able to play without any restrictions, while veteran Sam Darnold will serve as his backup.

The NBA is returning to a traditional format for this season's All-Star Game.
The league announced on Wednesday that the game would return to a matchup of the Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference, would eliminate the player draft and was doing away with the untimed fourth quarter Final Target Score.
Captains will still be named, however, based on the top vote-getters from each conference.

The Milwaukee Bucks reportedly offered Giannis Antetokounmpo a three-year, $186.6 million contract extension in the days before trading for Damian Lillard.
Shams Charania and Sam Amick of The Athletic reported it's "immediately unclear" whether Antetokounmpo will take the extension in the aftermath of the Lillard blockbuster. It had been widely expected that the two-time MVP would wait out his contract situation until at least next offseason.
Antetokounmpo has been open about the fact his main goal at this point in his career is competing for championships—even if it means leaving Milwaukee.
"I'm a Milwaukee Buck, but most importantly I'm a winner," Antetokounmpo recently said on the 48 Minutes podcast. "I want to win. I have to do whatever it takes for me to win and if there's a better situation for me to win the Larry O'Brien [Trophy], I have to take that better situation."

Even though the Portland Trail Blazers haven't been high on the trade offers they've received from the Miami Heat, there's still a belief Damian Lillard is going to end up being dealt to the reigning Eastern Conference champions.
Per Michael Grange of SportsNet, there is a "growing consensus" around the NBA that Lillard will be moved to the Heat at some point.
Marc J. Spears of Andscape reported on Monday that the Toronto Raptors were seen as the "front-runners" to acquire Lillard after recently engaging in conversations with Portland, though no deal "close to being imminent" as of the start of this week.
One reason the Blazers haven't been enamored with Miami's offers to this point is they don't believe it's "even close" to including its full array of available assets, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
According to Jackson, the Heat's offer includes Tyler Herro, two first-round draft picks in 2028 and 2030 plus another player to make the salaries match (either Kyle Lowry or Duncan Robinson).
This is basically the same offer that has reportedly been on the table for Portland since Lillard made his trade request on July 1. Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated noted at that time noted the Blazers are "lukewarm" on Herro.

Having two roster spots open going into training camp next week, the Golden State Warriors have been actively searching for players who might be able to step in for a role on a team with championship aspirations.
Per ESPN's Kendra Andrews, one reason the Warriors are being thorough is because they are trying to find a "'glue guy' who will not be a distraction in a locker room already juggling multiple strong personalities."
When the Warriors were eliminated from the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers in May, head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged "there was some trust lost" stemming from the incident when Draymond Green punched Jordan Poole during training camp last year.
