STAKEHOLDER FEEDBACK SESSION HELD IN RIETGAT
On Wednesday, 11 June 2025, a stakeholder feedback session was convened in the Rietgat policing area to reflect on the outcomes of the Ministerial Imbizo held on 5 April 2024.
The session was attended by a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from the Local Community Policing Forum, the Department of Community Safety, ward councillors, the Tshwane Metro Police Department, various local non-profit organisations (NPOs), and community members.
The Ministerial Imbizo provided an opportunity for residents to raise concerns, complaints, and suggestions related to policing in the area.
During the feedback session, community members expressed appreciation to the District Commissioner for visible improvements in policing, particularly in Jukulyn and Rietgat. Residents recalled that gunfire used to be a frequent and distressing part of daily life. However, since the intervention of the District Commissioner and the appointment of the current Station Commander, Brigadier Devan Govender, there has been a noticeable improvement in safety and a stabilisation in crime levels.
In his address, Major-General Samuel Thine reported that the Stabilisation Task Team has arrested 207 suspects and recovered several fi****ms to date. Investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on linking these fi****ms to other criminal activities in the precinct.
The Major-General reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing crime-combating efforts in Rietgat. These include targeted intelligence-led operations, continued suspect tracing and arrests, as well as high-density deployments under Operation Shanela. He also emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between the SAPS and community members, noting that public involvement remains a key pillar in ensuring lasting safety.
Major-General Thine also commended Brigadier Devan Govender and all members under his command for their dedication and excellent work. He encouraged residents to continue supporting the police by reporting crime and sharing any information that could assist with investigations.
Members of the public are reminded to report any suspicious activity by contacting SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or via the My SAPS App.
