This is Ocho. Ocho lives in my bathroom and loves hanging out on my orchid plant. Every day, I soak a Q-Tip in water and place it wherever he is—on the plant, behind the toilet, or on the vanity—and he eagerly comes over for a drink. Did I feel the urge to smash him when I first saw him? No. Flush him down the toilet? No. Burn everything down? Absolutely not.
Ocho is tiny compared to me. I could easily end his life, but instead, I choose kindness. He has just as much of a right to exist on this earth as I do—if not more. In fact, he plays a far greater role in maintaining the natural balance of life than I ever could.
Choosing kindness is easy. I urge everyone to take a moment to rethink the language and feelings they associate with spiders, insects, or rodents. These creatures are not pests, nor are they threats. Let them be. If possible, help them. Choose kindness. It’s the simplest thing you can do. 🕷
