The pain of a single mother watching her children slowly deteriorate in health due to drugs is overwhelming for Ma Cecelia Delon in Gbarnga, B**g County. She is now calling for her two sons to be taken to a rehabilitation center.

Despite her sons, Emmanuel Delon and Levi Delon, being addicted to drugs, a condition she has long prayed for God’s intervention; Ma Delon has endured the hardship of living under the same roof with them.

She has struggled over the years to raise her children in the best way possible, yet her efforts have not yielded the results she hoped for, as both have turned to drugs. It deeply pains her to see them living a life she never imagined for them.

According to Ma Delon, she has carried this burden without any support, believing her children would one day become her caretakers as she grows old. But her hopes have been shattered.

Recently, when she entered her sons’ room to greet them, she found them again heavily under the influence an experience that broke her down and led her to appeal for them to be taken to rehab.

She admits she can no longer endure the sorrow of living with her children while they remain entangled in drug use.

As many Liberian youths continue to die from drugs, especially the deadly “Spark and Die”, Ma Cecelia Delon wants her two sons to be admitted to rehabilitation in hopes of restoring their lives.

Emmanuel Delon became addicted to drugs in 2020. He is a high school graduate and once worked as a classroom teacher.

Levi Delon dropped out of school in seventh grade and has been addicted since 2013, making it 12 years of struggle with drugs.

Ma Cecelia Delon is appealing for urgent help to send her children to a rehabilitation center.

The Nigerian government has blocked about 13.5 million social media accounts for sharing offensive content online and breaching the 2024 Code of Practice.

Authorities said the crackdown spanned across major platforms, including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), with roughly 59 million pieces of harmful content taken down.

Officials say the move is part of tighter oversight of the country's rapidly growing digital space, arguing that while social media fuels communication and commerce, it also poses great risks such as misinformation, cyberbullying, fraud, and exploitation.

Dozens of disadvantaged youths, commonly referred to as "Zogos," are currently staging a protest at the SKD premises, demanding that the government take immediate action to arrest drug dealers and curb the ongoing drug crisis in Liberia.

As part of their demonstration, could they assist the LDEA by identifying the locations of these dealers to facilitate arrests?

They may already be familiar with many of those places.

Kokoyah DDO Kerkulah Reaffirms Commitment Despite Challenges, Calls for Mobility and Salary Increment

Written by: Melvin Paylee Zico Siakor /[email protected]

(August 20, 2025): Amid challenges such as the lack of mobility and low salary, Kokoyah Statutory District Development Officer, Roosevelt Urey Kerkulah, says he remains committed to performing his duties.

Speaking recently on Radio Gbarnga, Mr. Kerkulah explained that, as a son of the district called to serve, he will do everything possible to deliver on his mandate.

While reaffirming his commitment, Mr. Kerkulah emphasized the urgent need for mobility support.

He disclosed that the secondhand motorcycle he personally purchased about five years ago has outlived its lifespan, yet he continues to rely on it. According to him, this severely limits his ability to move efficiently across the district.

He stressed that if his office is provided with reliable transportation, it would significantly enhance performance, particularly in reaching communities and inspecting ongoing development projects.

At the same time, the Kokoyah Statutory District Development Officer called for an increment in the salaries of local authorities to reflect their qualifications and responsibilities.

He noted that the current salaries of several local leaders are far below their positions.

Additionally, Mr. Kerkulah appealed for the inclusion of long-serving volunteer staff on the government payroll, acknowledging their years of dedicated service to the district.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) says Africa loses over $580 billion annually to corruption and illicit capital outflows, undermining growth and worsening its nearly $2 trillion debt burden.

AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina told Bloomberg the continent loses about $1.6 billion daily in “financial leakages,” including $90 billion in illicit financial flows, $275 billion through profit-shifting by multinationals, and $148 billion from corruption.

Written by: Melvin Paylee Zico Siakor /[email protected]

(August 19, 2025): Dr. Daanue Paye Zwuogbae, the newly inducted County Health Officer (CHO) of B**g County, has vowed to significantly reduce maternal deaths in the county.

According to Dr. Zwuogbae, improving B**g County’s health system must begin with preventing maternal deaths at all levels.

Speaking on Monday, August 18, 2025, during his induction ceremony held at the B**g County Health Team Office on the Phebe Compound, he stressed that no woman should die while giving birth.

He used the occasion to call on health workers in the county to strengthen services at clinics, especially in rural areas, adding that such measures would greatly help reduce maternal deaths.

Dr. Zwuogbae described it as disheartening to see mothers and their babies dying during childbirth, emphasizing the urgent need to do everything possible to save their lives.

He succeeds Dr. Jefferson K. Sibley, who now serves as Technical Advisor for all County Health Officers across Liberia.

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Zwuogbae served as CHO in Sinoe and Grand Gedeh Counties.

Recently, the Ministry of Health ( MoH) honored him and his team in Grand Gedeh for reporting zero maternal deaths in May and June this year.
