Dear Californians,
Gavin Newsom is lying when he calls Prop 50 “temporary.” Six years is longer than world wars, blockbuster TV shows, and even building of modern marvels. Let me explain why Gavin’s unconstitutional power grab is anything but temporary.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary - temporary, adjective: lasting for a limited time.
Gavin's lie goes like this. Since we return to the Independent Redistricting Commission in six years, this unconstitutional power grab is only "temporary."
Gavin says six years of congressional maps is “temporary.” World War I lasted just 4 years. If it outlasts the Great War, it’s not temporary.
Gavin claims six years of his corrupt power grab is “temporary.” The original run of Q***r Eye for the Straight Guy only lasted 5 seasons. Gavin, if your plan outlasts Q***r Eye, it’s not temporary.
Gavin says six years is “temporary.” The Golden Gate Bridge — a modern marvel of engineering — was built in just four. If Gavin's planned power grab outlasts the time it takes to build a modern marvel, it’s not temporary.
Independent Commission maps last 10 years. Gavin’s “temporary” maps last 6. If Gavin’s maps last longer than the 2021 Commission’s maps, they are not temporary.
A yes vote on 50 sets a precedent that if politicians in Sacramento do not like the lines drawn by the Commission, all they have to do is redraw the lines, blame the other political party and get their voters to "temporarily" redraw the lines.
The Independent Redistricting Commission exists to prevent politicians from gerrymandering districts. A yes vote is not a temporary solution; it destroys the Commission and lets politicians choose their voters.
