We scuba dive in Swansboro to
untangle an anchor line…

Things happen on the water, that no amount of experience can prevent (they just happen (our fellow water-people understand)). When things like this inevitably unfold, you fall back on that experience to get you back home safe.

Upon safe arrival back at the slip, Captains typically reach out to a local dive service to handle the disentanglement.

Follow along, as we scuba dive next to the famous Double Bridges (home of out-of-this world sunsets/sunrises) to retrieve Nancy Lee’s (“The Queen of Swansboro”) anchor line out of her port-side propeller. 🫡✅

We swim with gators to
clean boats… 👀

If you didn’t know, downtown Wilmington is a HOTSPOT for alligators & boats.

The boats there are subject to hard/soft marine growth such as barnacles, sea grass, mud, etc. The divers there are subject to the gators…

The growth that occurs on these boats make them look terribly dirty and lose most of their operational efficiency.

Boat owners/brokers will reach out to a professional, local dive service to schedule one-time or recurring bottom cleans to mitigate this ongoing problem.

In this video, you’ll see diver Nick gear-up, and splash into what looks to be dirty chocolate milk to clean a sailboat.

Cape Fear Marina specifically, is a location that is known for its heavy alligator activity. Some of them reaching 14+ feet long! While we are the only divers in the area that are willing to brave these waters, we take comfort knowing that the water is getting colder & slowing these giants down.

Here’s to cold water, and heavy marine growth… ✅🫡

If we don’t cram these things full of air, we don’t work!

Some of the behind-the-scenes duties of career scuba divers usually involve filling tanks (usually for tomorrow (and usually late at night lol)).

Tonight, we reflect on the past couple years of late nights, filling tanks in this shop. This shop is Instigator Fishing & Diving Charters, owned by Cindy Norris.

For the past couple years they have been a massive source of support for us! Them, and shops like the New River Dive Center. Without their support, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Tonight we salute them as we begin to also step into the world of filling tanks. 🫡

The takeaway: We will always be willing to show support to others and teach them things that will hopefully help mold them into better versions of themselves.

Safe diving my friends 🤙

One thing we love about Swansboro, NC is the drama & beauty that unfolds when you drive across the double bridges into Cedar Point. There’s something magical about the moment you cross over the White Oak River. The view is easily a ten out of ten!

These bridges have carried people between Swansboro and Cedar Point since 1953. The originals stood for nearly 50 years before being replaced in 2001 by the modern spans you drive across today.

Once per month, we have the pleasure of diving here under the old head boat named Nancy Lee to clean her underwater. Here’s a couple snapshots from our recent visit.

Sneads Ferry was never destined to become a big city or industrial hub…

Instead, its roots have stayed anchored in the local waters. To truly understand Sneads Ferry, you must understand fish houses.

A fish house to a fisherman, is like a barn to a farmer. It is where catches are processed (iced, cleaned, sold, etc.), nets are mended, boats tie up, and big-fish stories are told.

Today, we are scuba diving at Mitchell Seafood to keep the underneath side of these commercial vessels in top-shape. They are part of the life-blood that brings function to this little fishing village we lovingly call home.

Did you know that
when boats run aground or hit obstructions, their propellers typically bend and don’t break?!

You can thank the alloy for taking the hit! Inboard propellers are typically made of bronze, or NiBrAl (a nickel, bronze, and aluminum alloy) which have high ductility: they can deform without cracking. The engineers WANT them to bend!

When this damage occurs, divers like us are called in to remove the damaged propellers underwater for repair and reinstall. We’ve pulled everything from 16” sailboat propellers to 44” Army Corps of Engineers giant propellers! 👀

44” propellers are quite heavy! Can anyone guess how we move these behemoths around underwater?

Diving alone at night…

While working in Sneads Ferry, we got an emergency call. A Sportfisher in Beaufort was in desperate need of a diver to get them cleaned up last minute. The team had a Wahoo tournament to fish the following day, and we certainly weren’t going to let them go out there covered in oysters!

We got them on a monthly schedule going forward, but decided it best to keep the first clean relatively short due to late night, low visibility, solo diving conditions. To say that diving in black water at night is creepy is the understatement of the year! 👀

With scrapers in hand, we hop in and get the three dimensional growth knocked as flat as we could as quickly as possible.

They can now fish the tournament without such a crazy fuel burn, and we will get them nice and shiny come regular service time.

After this boat, we have only one open, monthly spot left on our Beaufort, NC schedule. Shoot us a message today! 🫡

Late night call to Beaufort…

Job was to clean a 46 Bertram so she could fish the tournament tomorrow without a coral reef growing off her bottom.

Although swimming in black water during the night is one of our least favorite things to do, our customer experience comes first!

With the job complete have also added a new monthly customer to our schedule. We have only one more spot available on our monthly schedule in the Beaufort area.

Call to see if you’re a good fit today. We move fast! 🫡
